Given how long .22lr was nearly impossible to find, and that it was just recently getting findable, plus the possibility of another panic making it nearly impossible to find again, maybe some manufacturer will finally decide to:
1. start making rifles and handguns (other than pocket pistols) chambered in .25acp or 2. start making rifles and handguns chambered in something along the lines of .25acp necked down to take .223 or .17 projectiles .25acp is similar in performance to .22lr, but since it's reloadable, it's not as sensitive to drying up during a panic. Necking it down to .223 would make it even more resistant to supply drying up during a panic, since that would open up more possibilities for finding a supply of projectiles (and broaden the selection of loadings). Sure, it's pointless to even suggest something like that, since .22lr has always been cheap and plentiful, but less than a year ago I saw a dealer selling (not selling many, but there were a few buyers) .22lr for $90 a brick. |
