I'm not talking about a few grand on a gun, but something big like a car, land, etc?
For me, it has been about 8 years when I bought my first new car.
Still have it, too.
Anyway, reading about layoffs, bad economy, and me not liking my job, have kept me from spending much since I bought the car.

12/30/15 new car.  I kept the old one over 10 years and 200k miles.  Who can afford to trade up every few years any more?

Bought our house about 7 months ago.

And a GSD 2 months ago. He was $1400, which doesn't constitute a big purchase, but we are since in about $3k. Food for the year, new toys, training classes etc, we'll break 4K this year, and will probably spend 20k on him over his life.

Only because I'm jealous you found one in such nice shape.  . I had an 87 model that was stolen years ago.  I still miss it today.
