Yes, stop wasting money on the war on drugs, if people want to kill themselves thats their problem. As long as all of the people who say that all drugs should be legal have the addicts live with them so they get to experience the havoc that they wreak on their families. Lol. I'll answer your red herring with a question: Of the war on drugs was working, I take it we don't have any addicts, or the addicts we have are availed of treatment for their addiction rather than severely punished to such a degree that they can never get another decent job after they pay for their sins..thereby providing a way for continued existence, no on tax payer $? Because punishment, no matter how extreme, seems to not work so well. we literally condemn people to scraping the bottom of the barrel, for life...and we still have addicts. time to try something new. I posit that taking 10% of the total $ spent on the WOD and using it for treatment focused on getting these people back to work. I bet we have more success and less cost (lost tax $ and money spent on the WOD) my way than doubling down on the current system. let the untreatables kill themselves off. and if you keep an addict around....joke is on you. and that is any addiction that has potential to cause behavior issues, alcohol is included. |

OP needs to be more specific: Should cocaine be legalized for recreational use? Because it's already legal now for some medical uses.
And it's a moot point anyway, people will take it whether it is legal or not. Might as well save some money and civil liberties and get out of their way. |

All drugs should be legal, but anti-overdose meds should be highly regulated. EMS/Hospitals should have it but it only be used in an accidental overdose by a medical professional while treating a patient. You OD on drugs, EMS/Hospital has no responsibility to attempt to revive/save your life.

I think we should probably just legalize cannabis at the federal level and see how that goes first. Then cautiously consider other drugs. My main issue with cocaine and meth is that the drugs can directly contribute to pharmacological violence. The addicts get all paranoid, strung out and violent sometimes. |

You are 100% correct. The war on soft drinks IS a joke and a scam....... "we" are being played while the connected get rich... no doubt. Funny, most want to talk about the fake "war on tobacco" but many fail to mention the utter havoc and chaos tobacco use causes on society and families. It isn't just about the money spent on the fake war on promiscuity...... it is also about the destruction of the family, the abused children, the BILLIONS in medical costs/care, insurance rates, health care rates, etc. etc. Yeah, legalize that shit. If you believe legalization would not open up an entirely different set of problems and/or greatly increase the problems we already have I think you have not thought the problem through very well. I've seen several families utterly destroyed by internet porn addicted members...... legalize it, make it readily available, take the stigma away, condone it, etc. and see what happens. Yeah, you can stop the war on liqour and then get to enjoy living in a society that WILL see alcoholism skyrocket and all the problems associated with it greatly multiply. Yes legalize it and all drugs. We don't have enough addicted , numb, high/stoned, people amongst us. It's no one's business what someone else does..... until they kill you or a loved one in an accident or while committing a robbery to support their habit. We should have the government supply the drugs, that way we can cut down on the associated negative behavior the drug addicted embrace. We should also stop any law suit that may arise when a drug addicted doctor, nurse, etc. fucks up and kills someone. We don't have enough addicted, abused, hungry, forgotten children out there. Yes, we should remove ALL stigma of drug abuse..... all drugs should be legalized and in effect have the government and society condone and encourage their use. AND, in a perfect world, we could all stop working and remain high and in a state of bliss. We could reach the utopia so many of us want...... we could become a country where no one works and money falls from the sky....... those of us that do work wouldn't mind our health care premiums going up by a factor of 10 to pay for the health problems so many of the drug addicted experience. Yes, lets legalize it and take away any and all stigma of drug use...... let's promote the use of drugs and condone it. All the problems that would arise can be easily dealt with. Yeah because being that drugs are illegal means that nobody can get them right? Wrong, anyone with $$ and motivation can get whatever they want. The war on drugs has done nothing to stop them from being obtained and used. It has created huge criminal organizations across the world. You are 100% correct. Especially young people who are more apt to experiment and "try new shit".... especially if it was legal and they were not looking at jail time, fines, records, forfeitures, etc. Then, we get to pay for those that are "to sick " ( that's what they say ) to work and support themselves. I am reminded and see the affects of drug abuse everyday and I get pissed knowing my tax dollars pay for people to be high all day long as they stumble up and down the street and the ambulance responds to their homes because they stopped breathing from dam near overdosing. |

What about the families in Mexico living under the cartels that are a direct result of the war on drugs? Ill will venture to say these groups all through central and south America will kill more people and ruin more lives than what would occur in a legalized environment in the US. No, it's a direct result of corruption. Big difference. You I guess are ready to throw in the towel and admit defeat. I would rather the corruption be addressed and not throw my hands up in the air willing to "fix?" one problem and then have to deal with another. |

Here's the problem with trying to outlaw bad choices:
We could invent a drug that would turn you into a literal walking dead zombie. 99.87% chance of it happening every time you tried it. You would be almost guaranteed to have a craving for braaaains when you took this drug. And there are people out there who would take it, knowing the potential effects and the odds. Go ahead and try to fix that with government. |

Please let me know when food or overeating is listed as the cause of car or industrial accidents. Let me know when food or overeating or obesity is listed as the reason someone sold there child to a pervert, or mistreated and abused them, etc. Hey wait! I wasn't pointing out a bad behavior to justify another. I was addressing a point you made about your taxpayer dollars going to pay for other people's bad choices. That's ok. Alcohol leads people to get into car accidents and mistreat their family members. Just like other drugs. So... bring back alcohol prohibition? Why did we repeal that, anyways? |
