If you have twitter do a search on there for ????
That's just Kagoshima written in Japanese. It's where I'm getting the videos and stream links and there's more pictures. Edit... apparently Arfcom doesn't support unicode... |

Are they sure it's really a volcanic eruption? Maybe Mr. Bond is simply destroying another secret launch facility...

interesting. I'm just pulling pics off twitter and only have a very rudimentary understanding of Japanese... So mistakes such as this are likely. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

pic of the spot that erupted.
Considering how active this mountain has been and the alert level being raised so much I was really hoping there would be some more outbursts today. But it's just been steaming away all day. this PDF has some cool thermal images of the mountain. http://www.data.jma.go.jp/svd/vois/data/tokyo/STOCK/monthly_v-act_doc/fukuoka/16m02/20160206_506.pdf |

I have a buddy who lived there (Kagoshima) and is in Osaka now. He says that's a pretty typical eruption and no one in Japan is even aware of it. He was surprised that the American media had picked this one, this time to make a deal out of it.

I think the cool volcanic lightning shots are what got it outside attention. Still there's a live cam that's been pretty good (at least during the day) still up... and the mountain has been pretty constantly releasing clouds of gas and occasionally ash plumes... The government body for such things in Japan raised the alert level pretty high so I thought maybe there would be a bigger boom... but it seems more likely given the history of this mountain for it just to continue generating small events. Maybe we'll get some more sweet lighting. |

don't know if anyone else was watching...
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ushine-2/theater There was just a nice explosion of glowing rock and some lightning... it's night so the glow was nice and visible. |

You did good
I am too familiar with this southern chain and subduction zone. I have a photo on a dead hard drive looking right into the caldera of one volcano, it erupted some time ago. There were rounded, concrete reinforced bunkers and the like. The JMA Japanese Meteorological Agency has even warned of volcanic activity since 3-11 |

this is turning out to be a pretty active night. Much more activity in the past half hour than I've seen in days.
