Really miss my foxbody, been somewhat looking around locally for another notchback but not much to see that's in decent shape. They are great cars, just not very powerful compared to todays standards.

OP, if you're going to replace/upgrade the seats, try to find the ones from SN95 Cobras - they are much superior

to the Fox-body seats and will bolt right in with a slight mod to the mounting brackets.

I've had 2.

85 and 93.   Both were great cars.  Not really many problems at all with either.   First got totaled by another mustang pulling out in front of me.  Second I sold when I had a family and needed the money.

A problem I did have with both (they were both hatchbacks) was that the hydraulic arms that held up the hatchback up went bad.  No motor trouble.

My wife is wanting to buy an 88-93 Mustang 5.0.  Is there any common issues I should look for before buying one?

UPDATE: bought the 90 GT today. Needs tires, paint (it's the ultra blue with gray bottom) and the seats need to be redone. Runs great, body and doors all line up fine, no rust on the shock towers or torque boxes (no cracks either). Has 144k miles, I bought it for $1800

Good looking car.  I see 99 cobra wheels, cobra front valence, 13" cobra front brakes.  What else has it got?

It has Cobra brakes all around, every single brake part has been replaced.  All suspension parts have been replaced and also the T-5 with a newer one from Summit Racing (Ford Racing).  I installed a 3:55 gear and have never been into the motor.  I bought it back in 2003 with 130,000 miles and hope to make it to 400,000.

Pretty funny, I was just talking to a buddy of mine about your cars.
He is a Ford nut. Building a 4.6 with a big single that will wind up either in a crown vic or a fox body stang.

They are tough cars.  My convertible got wrecked 3 times, broke a pinion shaft in the axle and ripped the auto trans out of it.  I traded it in with 200k hard miles on it

It was a doughnut cutting beast!  I still have my custom TYRFRYR license plate that is going on the vette next year for it's classic permanent tag

Very cool. I think you did good on that, Got it cheap enough so any upgrades wont break the bank and you wont end up with a car that you have more money into it then what its worth. .

I like the Cobra upgrades another poster has done,,that would be sweet upgrades to yours, lol.

My car was originally that color scheme, the person I bought it from painted it all one color.

I had an 89 gt vert.

I had not realized how bad of an idea it was to own a used, older, convertible in the state of Oregon.

I had to scrape the inside of the windows during the winter.  Due to the large amount of moisture that was always  present .

Wish I had bout a 5.0 lx notch.

Here's a pic of when I picked it up (new mustang pony wheels and new tires will be here next week):

Today I completely stripped the interior. It's getting the seats redone, new carpet, repainting all interior trim, etc.  Here's a quick pic today after taking it all apart:

She's beautiful. Well done OP.

The other night I was driving on 285 after the super bowl and wouldn't you know it, I was surrounded by Honda guys racing on the freeway. I was in my 85 CRX, and all of them wanted to buzz me and try to get me to race. I was almost hit by 3 of them. Dammit I wonder if any Mustang/domestic car groups will let me hang with them. I hate ricers

Fun and relatively easy to work on.

If you have the time since you have the interior removed, it might be a great idea to replace the heater core by dislocating the dash and gaining access to the heater core box at the top right hand side.

I have pics somewhere I can text you or maybe post them here.

Replacing the heater core is probably the most hated job of owning that car.  I've replaced two and it's not bad, just time consuming.  You are half way there.

You want 89+ which is mass air. 88 and older is speed density. If you are planning any power adders (turbo, nitrous , supercharger) with the stock bottom end you want 89-92. As 93s have hypertectic* pistons.

ETA maybe its 88 on for mass air. I never kept any of that stuff long enough to remember. Last car had fast injection
View Quote

88 Kali cars had mass air, the other 49 were still speed density.
The 87/88 speed density cars were quicker than mass air cars with basic boltons like pulleys, h-pipe, etc, Needed mass air after cam swaps to run right.
