Is there any problems with either of these and is it pretty good or not?  I see ammoman has the Q3131A made in Isreal for $189/1000 shipped.  What is the difference if any in them besides where they are manufactured.

I have been shooting South African battle packs but was hoping to find something a little more accurate.  The S/A is ok but I don't think it is bringing the best groups possible from my Colt.  Would the commercial grade PMP be any better?

What other decent ammo could I get in this $189-$210/1000 price range?  Any help would be great.

I remember reading a while back in the ammunition forum that the Q3131 was having problems while the Q3131A was working just fine. I can't remember the exact problems though.

Buy Q3131, NOT Q3131A. Same exact thing as Q3131A but is MADE IN AMERICA.

SA isn't horribly accurate, but is ok. What twist is your colt? 1:7? Get some 64 gr. Winchester power points or Federal Gold Medal Sierra 69 gr BTHP if you want accuracy. Aside from paying out the ass for the above two you are stuck with generic factory ammo or reloading.

I buy Q3131 by the case for about $210 for blasting/plinking ammo. Cheaper doing it that way then spending time reloading 55 gr for plinking ammo. Then I use that brass and reload the good stuff.

BTW, I forgot to say that, while I don't condone buying too much from out of country, $189 is a good price for a case of Winch.

Also the Q3131 was only a few certain lots, and that was several years ago. I have not heard any recently reported problems in last 2 years with any Q3131. Of the 4 cases I've shot I have had zero ammo related problems, other than the 55 grain FMJ factory ammo accuracy [:(]

I shoot the Q3131A exclusively.  It's cheap, never had a problem, and fairly accurate.  Made in the same factory that puts out IMI.

Care to elaborate Silver Surfer, I'm getting conflicting statements here.

Oh M4 my barrel is 1:9 twist.

That's what my M4 is, 1:9. It doesn't shoot the 55 grain as well as other twists. I think they make a 62 gr. power point, and Federal has a 62 grain match. But that's if you want really great accuracy.

I shoot the 55 gr through my 1:9 just because it's cheap. My M4 is my have fun, plink, blast, and spray and pray rifle. I don't generally shoot it for great accuracy, I have other rifles for that. Anywhere around 62 grain would be a fairly accurate round with a 1:9. British SS109 from Century arms goes for only slightly more as the local Q3131. It would probably be cheap and a little more accurate for what you want.

I got a really good deal on the ammo so I purchased two cases, different lots, and types Q3131, Q3131a, it stroked (jams) and my ushmaster 1x9 twist grouped about 4-6" at a 100yds. all other ammo I used grouped at about 1" at a 100yds. with no-none jams! thats in my ipsc rifle its a 16" disipator. I would'nt even consider using that stuff in my 24" bm. but I have read some people had very good results. If you're getting a good deal try only a few boxes.

last year Q3131 was having problems with high pressure (blowing primers). I wont shoot Q3131 anymore. Q3131A is supposed to be ok.

Win=Blown primers, failure to feed...  Very bad stuff indeed.

I buy Miwall reloads and have had 100% satisfaction.

I appreciate the feedback on this guys.  Hey what about some of the other mfg. like PMC or Federal/American Eagle.  Are those OK or not?

I've used the usa 3131 and have had no problems some lots did have problems early99.It also worked well out of my rifle. The american eagle works well too but the brass sucks for reloading as it too soft.

Ammoman's page say his Q3131A is 1999 production.  So there are no reported problems with the '99 Q3131A correct?  If this is the case I think I'm going to try a case ;)

USPC40, I called Sportsmans Guide about that ammo.  They are clueless.  Said all they have is some 50gr Winchester thats 13.00 per box of 20.  Anyway....if you or anybody else has a part number on this stuff could you post it or email me.  Seems SG can't function without their product numbers.

I recently went through about 60 rounds of Q3131 (Winchester domestic stuff). It was an older lot. I had about 6-8 failures due to short stroking. Since my reloads functioned flawlessly, I have to assume that they were weak loaded. Q3131A has given me no problems. I used the same 3 magazines for both my reloads and the Q3131. I fired the Q3131 through it while it was clean, the reloads when it was dirty. I can only assume that older Q3131 isn't the most reliable stuff.

Well I just ordered 1000 rds from SG so I hope the Q3131A is decent.

Try the following:
WX0 - 46895
WX0 - 46896

Thats the one thing about SPG, they have 2-3 different numbers for the same item. I got a catalog with specials and went to order an item using the number in the catalog and it was sold out. I placed in a different number and there were plenty in stock.

I can't report on Q3131 first hand, but the Q3131A I've used in both my Colt and my Bushmaster rifles has been completely reliable and fairly accurate for hot "military-grade" ammunition.  It's good stuff and can be had for a good price.

I was at an egg shoot last year with my PSS .308 shooting 300 yard eggs, and there was a guy shooting at the 200 yard line who went 5 for 5 with a .223 Ruger boltgun and Q3131A ammo. The large eggs used for targets are about 2 1/8" tall, and only about 1 1/2" wide so that rifle and ammo were doing a fair slice better than 1 MOA. Good enough to feed my ARs I say!

Never had any feed problems with 3131 related to ammo. Once in a while I'd have a misfeed due to magazine problems or not enough lube in the action, etc. Cycles fine even on FA.

Also never had any problems reloading brass. For my once fired I average 8 out of ten that pass my sniper grade qualifications for brass. That includes cleaning then weighing, volume checking, cleaning again then depriming, re-sizing and trimming, then weighing again. Brass turns out nearly identical and once loaded will put holes in holes at 100 yds. 3131 Brass is very good IMO. I only use once fired brass for sniper rounds, but after that I use it for 55 gr, plinking, tracer, junk rounds, etc. Don't keep good track of # of loads after that.
