Thinking of buying a .22 mag, never owned one, but I have shot a few, and I like that extra punch and range for raccoon sized critters.

Is the ammo for them being neckbearded with regularity like the .22 lr?

Honestly I haven't even checked the shelves in months for anything because I have all my calibers stocked right up.

If I pick up a new rifle though I am going to want to grab a few hundred rounds for it to get comfortable with it, mail order to NY isn't much of an option, so I am stuck with local places.

WMR is all over the place where I live. Saw about 50 boxes of it at the hardware store today. I agree though, just go .17 instead.

It is not too hard to find here, but the price might be a 'little' high.  Usually around $15/50 rounds.  I still have a fair amount on hand so am picky about price.

You mentioned extra range. Probably should get the .17.

On the fence, I really like the laser beams that the .17HMR shoots, but I want the bigger bullet.

Not looking to do much past 100 yards, so it should be a wash.

There are more options for semi-auto in the .22mag also.

So I should be able to trade a brick of golden bullets for about 200 rounds of magnum.

Much worse. While I don't own one any longer, I still keep an eye out as my friend bought his son a 22Mag Cricket a couple of years ago. I don't know the last time I saw any on the shelf.

I'd go with 17HMR if it was me. I've never not seen any on the shelf.

I haven't shot my .22 mag in years. It's been that long since I've seen any ammo on the shelves and I'm too afraid to shoot the few boxes I have.

Cabela's stocks it regularly but only in the 50-count.  The Swamp People bulk packs are still missing. Prices range from, $13 to $15.

I know plenty of guys who take yotes with 17HMR. MI is just across the border from me and you can only predator hunt with rimfire after dark. Shoot coons with gamepoints and starlings with v-max.

I picked up a PMR last year . It has been tougher to find than 22 (which I am good on) I have found it regular enough that I probably have about 800-1,000 rounds. It turns up at PSA pretty often
