Approx 1/2 the size of coyote tracks, lives in a slash pile and walks on top of a 3" fallen tree. I'm guessing either fox or babcat.

A canid of some sort.  Looks like the right size for coyote.

His size 10.5 boot lower right in the frame is a good reference.

You have his size three gnome boots to compare the tracks to.
Of course, the tracks may be bigger now due to minor melting.

Cant say from your pic. If you can see the claw marks its canine, if not its cat.

Its a fax.

for sure not a feline. The main pad shape is far off. Also cat tracks are more side by side where as canines are very straight line ish

Tracks are just barely over an inch long. Way small for a yote here and all tracks converge on slashpile.

Then it's most certainly a fox if not coyote.  To me viewing the pic, the size looks coyotish comparing it to your boot.

Definitely canine, the back pad of a cat is much wider.

Also, the claw marks both on the tracks and also the claw skid across the snow definitely points toward canine.  Cats aren't extended in a slow gait like that.

Those are Canidae tracks, not Felidae tracks.

The two toes way down along side the "main pad" part is a clear indicator it's a canine of some sort. Dog, fox, 'yote, etc.

Probably a Chihuahua

Guess I'll have to bring my fox pro and savage .22 out to better identify it. I considered digging thru the slash pile to find it but only had my 50 Cal on me at the time and thought it might make a mess. Plus I hate cleaning it if I don't have to.

fox.  Unlike other canines, they index their steps (rear paws placed where the front paw stepped).

Cats walk with claws retracted.

Claws/nails can be seen in these tracks.

M R Fox prints.

Fox walk almost like a cat. If they're as small as you say, it's fox.

I've seen yotes walk like that, too, when they're trying to sneak up on something.

As mentioned K9 prints are long, pointy and with visible claw marks. Cat's paws are much more round and show no claws unless they're haulin ass.
