I'm scratching my head - how the hell does ORD not even get mentioned?

No shit! I had a layover get delayed a long ass time there. At my terminal, all the bathrooms had lines out the door, every single one. The charging station at my terminal was down (there was only one per terminal). So, to use the bathroom and to revive my phone, I had to go to a different terminal. I hated shitcago's airport.

In the past 5 years I've flown only from/to BUR/BHM and BUR/LAS. That hasn't been too bad, been able to get through the TSA stuff pretty quickly and painlessly.

Burbank is a really small airport and has limited flights, airlines, and hours of operation but I'll be damned if it isn't a breeze to get through. There's almost never a wait and getting through security usually takes less than 5 minutes. Once the plane lands it takes 5 minutes to get your checked bag. Walking on the tarmac to board and deboard the plane is one of the charms of that place too.

On a side note it's kind of amazing to think that the Skunkworks were right next to that place back in the day.

I'd imagine international travel to be much different though, at least in the US you know what to expect, for the most part. Unfortunately I only flew as a small kid pre 9/11 so I don't remember what that was like. I do remember dropping my brother off at LAX before 9/11 and things did seem more relaxed and simpler. Those days are long gone and never coming back.

I don't get the hate. Granted I've flown maybe 20 times in my life. But each one has been a breeze. Walk in print out my tickets, check my luggage no problem. Get to security and put my shit through the scanner, walk through the radiation machine like I'm instructed too no problems. What's the big deal here?

Bad- LAX, ORD, SEA, ORF

Good- PDX, LGB, BUR, SAN

ETA: Nagoya and Narita were probably the best airport experiences Ive ever had.

When I came back from my Alaska trip, we flew out of Vancouver airport and cleared customs there

was threw security and customs in 30 minutes.  Canada airport security is a breeze, not even a millimeter scanner just a metal detector.

flew into lax terminal 8 I think and had to get to terminal 3 or 4 I can't remember....holy sheep fuck what a stupid ass airport.....

had to go outside cross the road, then go threw tsa

I'll echo that LAX is among the worst, and Burbank is pretty decent.

SFO isnt too bad, nice remodel but still has some problems - not enough seats/area at gates for big international flights.

All the major hubs inland suck balls to varying degrees.

My local airport, Lihue is tied with Hilo as the best fking airports in the country that I've seen.  You come to either one, your
blood pressure will instantly nose dive.  Relaxation is in the air here.

Oh, and our DMV is actually a nice place to visit too!

I have global entry/precheck, airport lounge access and fly business/first class about 75% of the time. It still sucks, but not as bad as it could be without it. Just have to go into it with the mindset that your only expectation is to get from point a to b.i agree that DIA sucks. From TSA, to gate agents to the mall cops at ground transportation. I just won't hold meetings in Denver any more...

LOL, been on them several times.  It's your ride at Dulles from an incoming international flight to your multi-checkpoint immigration clearance.  Only org slower than TSA is Customs and Border Patrol.

As for other airports, I hope they can either expand PHX, or build a second airport. At some gates, there's so many people I wonder how they're not in violation of the city's fire code.

Funny because I seem to miss all these frequent interactions with TSA assholes, and I fly a lot.

Even when I was going through a phase when I opted-out from the body scanners, the TSA guys were professional.

I've also occasionally forgotten to take the baggie with my liquids out of my carry on before the bag goes in the scanner, and if they noticed they didn't even say anything.

Rudeness is contagious though.  Perhaps if some of you guys make a habit of approaching an interaction with the TSA with a shitty look on your face and a bad attitude, they recognize an asshole and might fail to respond with the level of professionalism a highly trained and highly paid security guy might give you.

My personal theory is if you make it a rule to treat people with respect you run into fewer assholes throughout the course of your day.

Holy fuck yes. CDG is AWFUL. And there's nothing worse then being jetlagged in Heathrow and running into all those random security checkpoints. I don't know why people hate Atlanta. I have flown out of every terminal there. It's laid out better then about 90% of the airports out there. They only way it would be easier to find your terminal/gate is if it was one big giant circle.

That being said a lot of "bad" airports are bad because they weren't setup for the types of security checkpoints we have now. That causes a lot of issues with chokepoints and lines.

I think the worst US airport I've experience is Minneapolis/St. Paul. Every time i've flown there there it took almost an hour of walking to get to the connecting gate. It was insane.

My biggest pet peave is the baggage policies. The last couple times i've traveled i've seen them let people with three bags on smaller planes. By three bags I mean a computer bag, duffle, and rolling case. The last four flights I was on the flight attendants had to start threatening everyone because no one checked bags to save money. Then no one wanted to curbside check the big bags for free, then everyone started trying to smash bags on top of bags or try to hold giant bags in their seat.

Unless it's for work, or over about 14-16 hours, I just drive now. I use to love flying too. Between the TSA, costs, and horrible airline policies it's just not a pleasant experience anymore.

Parts of it are better.  There are still sections where I expect to see chickens in bamboo cages being strapped to the the roof of the plane. All the NYC metro airports are hell.

Agree on Brussels, it blows, as does Gatwick.  And I'm pretty sure the DC-Area airports mandate that at least 50% of the employees, including TSA, are Hajib-wearing females.  Everytime I come into DC I feel like I'm in the West Bank.

Tampa is awesome, thank God it's my home field.

Exactly. I fly domestically every couple weeks and, as long as you know what you're doing, it is easy. Nothing in your pockets, slip on shoes, don't try to bring stuff you aren't allowed to, and you breeze through. In 2+ years the only delay I've had was at HOU when they saw the lanyard of duck calls in my backpack and wanted to see what they were. A couple minutes of checking my bag and I was on my way

ETA: If you think dealing with TSA at the airports is bad, go deal with some of the heliports trying to get to a drilling rig. ERA in Houma is a complete goat fuck, I watched them make a guy put his McDonalds soda through the X-ray scanner, and then act shocked when it spilled everywhere going through the flaps.

Some Airports sucked WAY before TSA... ATL comes immediately to mind.....I cant remember one Delta flight I took in the 90's that didnt have my connection with 1/2 between flights at the opposite end of the airport.  EWR has always been Dirty and smally, although PAPD at one time was pretty good about rousting the Bu...umm in mean "Domestically Challenged".

You still walk the tarmac at LF Wade in Bermuda, no jetways there...

Security and US Customs there is nice, and since you go through US Customs prior to leaving Bermuda, arriving back at the US is just like a domestic flight...

I find ATL nice, but kind of a PITA going from terminal to terminal if you have too, the rental car thing at DFW blows, its like a twenty minute bus ride to the rental car area...nothing at the terminals, and parking is ridiculously expensive at DFW....

BUF is small, but nice, and the TSA there seems less fucked up than other places...

But, regardless, the whole flying thing is a major PITA compared to how it was way back when...

I figure if I can drive somewhere in 12-14 hours or less, I'd rather just drive...

I'm fortunate that I really don't have to deal with the TSA when I travel. So, for me, the worst part about the airport terminal is trying to quickly navigate my way through the mindless throngs of imbecilic cows meandering aimlessly about. Get the fuck out of the way, stop walking 5 abreast at a snails pace, and quit congregating at the outflow end of escalators and moving walk ways.

DEN is the least shitty big airport.

IAH is just a turd for commuter flights, you have to go outside to board for United, and those plastic covers over the jetways don't keep out the heat, cold, or rain.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

DEN is the worst airport for security lines.  I hate travelling to Denver.  I hate the Denver airport.  It's not made for business travelers, it's not convenient and it's not fast.  I can clear customs in YFR to my terminal in less time than it takes to get through DEN.

Also, DEN is not a big airport.
