I have a Gillette my dad had in the Navy which was made in 1985 (my birth year). Sorry I couldn't help more.

ETA: literally the same one as this guy just made in '85

I've had this one since I started: Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor

I then followed the advice of many experienced safety razor operators and purchased a sampler pack of blades from Amazon. It took me a while to get the technique down without tearing up my neck and chin, and I still get some red dots now and then, but when you get it just right:

Cheap ass LORD razor with Atra blades

I've never used a murker (want to) but this razor does such a good job for $14 it's hard to move on. It's ugly as sin though

I used to shave with Feather blades, but they are very unforgiving.

My beard is pretty tough so I had to try many blades to find one sharp enough, but less than Feather sharp.

Astra Platinum.

I was tired of my Merkur chrome plated razors, which are good razors, but the chrome peels off after use and cleaning.

I picked up an IKON, stainless steel, the head is cerakoted.

Amazing razor, lets you swap between two combs depending on how aggressive you want the angle.

Gillette red tip tto (was my grandfathers razor) with feather blades. My department participates in the no shave November and December charity drive. I haven't shaved since October 31st. It's driving me crazy.

I was happy with my Jagger until I noticed the chrome chipping off the head in several spots recently.  Seems like that is typical after 3 years of use from what I found on Google.

Ran across a neat looking blackened aluminum razor that id like to find again and buy as a replacement/upgrade.

Oh, and feather blades.  Everything else tore my face up. Feathers are so smooth.  I also don't get ingrown hairs like I used to with the cartridge razors.

I have a merkur 38c barberpole and a icon slant bar. I started with the merkur and it is a excellent high value razor that is relatively mild. I recently bought ikon to try out a slant bar and it has been excellent as well. It is twice as expensive but is better quality and more versatile with several heads and handles that all work together. They use milled stainless steel rather than zamak that merkur and others use in their razors. As far as blades, I use feathers sometimes but they are usually harsh on the first use. I prefer derby when I want a mild shave and Astra if I want something sharper.

Merkur Long, with with feathers..

PSA to follow.

If you shave drunk with feathers, once you sober up it will look like someone put a bag of fighting cats over your head..

That is all..

Feather blades

I can't say enough about Feather blades, super sharp and close shave but I never cut myself, strange perfect balance they created.

Lady Gillette.   I'm a male so flame suit on.   It's blue though and I like the long handle.   My gramps used it.  He's one of the manliest men I know.   And I use feather blades and lever 2000 with a brush

It's the formula a scientist came up with.  You can't argue with science.

An old scientist recommended a '59 Fat Boy so I use that sometimes too though.

So what one did you try? I thought it would be a home skin graft waiting to happen but was pleasantly surprised on a very nice shave.
