Like to pick up an Double Edge Safety Razor, what one have you settled with and like?
How about the double edged safety blade, what is a good one to try?

Thanks

I use a Gillette Tech for travel and alternate between a Fatboy and an Aristocrat at home. FWIW, I'm currently sporting a month of beard growth.

I use a 1964-vintage Gillete Slim Adjustable with Persona blades, preferably the Med Prep ones. It is a clean, smooth, comforable shave

I have a modern adjustable Merkur , but it's harsher than the classic Gillette.

you'll have to try a few blades to find the best one for you.

I have had the Micro Touch One Classic for over a year now.     Less than $20 at most grocery stores.   Works great.

Gillette Slim Boy, about a 1959 model as I remember. It is adjustable which is what I love about it. Astra, Personna or Feather blades.

I'm using the brass second to last one with the tiger teeth.

Those vintage silver star blades suck by the way.
Eta; I have been using dollar store blades and they work nicely.

I went to these because of the hype a few years ago.

I'm back to regular shavers.  The 5 blade ones from Wegmans (about $6 for 5) are leaps and bounds better.

I didn't use the whole hot shaving cream routine, but I shave in the morning and I'm not spending as much time as a girl getting makeup on to shave.

I have a slim adjustable, that's a great razor.  it's polite even with feathers.  I don't think I really can make that razor harsh.

OP.  My main shaver is an Ikon stainless steel open comb with a long handle.  I am using the Gillette med prep blades currently but also use feathers or Gillette Yellows.

Rhodium plated English Gillette 22 with Feather blades. I shave a full week on a blade.
It's not an aggressive razor like the heavier 16 I'd like to find, so it needs sharp blades to match.
You might have to play with blades to find a good setup with the razor you choose.

I suggest you try an Edwin Jagger de89 and some blade sampler packs off Amazon.
A lot of razors come with Derby Extra blades included. They are dull as hell.

Have several, but my favorites are 1940's Gillette, and a Merkur Bakelite Safety Razor.

For blades, my favorite is Gillette Silver Blue Blades Made in Russia, You can get them on Amazon or Ebay.

Best thing I ever did was changing over to a safety razor.

Feather AS-D1 but with a Ikon open comb head. If you're in the market, the new Ikon's with the two sided heads look nice & I might grab one soon. Open comb on one side with the other, safety bar, gotta love it.  Switching between Astra platinum's & Feather blades, but I think I dig the Astra's better for everyday use, those Feathers can be mean if you are careful.

I just got my Dad's Gillette adjustable, 1964 vintage and a Gillette SS from the late 40's. Going to order a sampler of blades. I was surprised that Walgreen's doesn't carry them.

I got a sample pack when I bought my razor and the 7 0'Clock where the best by far.
Feathers are too aggressive for me.

This is my exact setup as well. Short-handled three-piece Merkur.

I got one of those fancy adjustable Merkurs and cut the crap out of my face, so simple is better.

I've got a Merkur with mostly Feather blades.  I also have a pretty decent variety pack and am trying them to see what I like.  They all seem to work well.

It's so much cheaper and I don't feel like I have to use the cartridge beyond it's effective life (of the shitty cartridge system I used to use) to get my moneys worth.   I am using sharp blades getting close shaves.

I think the only way you can do that is if you loosen the razor when you rinse the blade and then run it across your face next time without tightening it up.
