Little green lizards everywhere.
It didn't rain but my car is soaking wet. A XXX Adult Fantasy store in every mall. "Thank you, Jesus" is a popular term for "I agree". Want to see a real alligator. Family has no driveway and a drop light for a porch light, 5 non-working cars, and a cast iron well pump so rust is thick on every sink or toilet. The most perfect mid day temps right now. Cool birds. Saw my first Oriole. Service / frontage roads. If someone grew up down here, I can only understand 22% of what they say. Family is willing to share their last bite of food with you. (I left them a $50 for having me over, and man they needed it. Helped them fix a 98 Cutlas that needed a AC bypass pulley. More as it comes to me. Cool place. Haven't left Jax yet. |

Contrary to all the wacky news reports.....its actually quite nice.

Jacksonville isn't really "Florida".
I say this having spent 20 years there growing up. Hit the panhandle, or St Augustine/Daytona. |

Quoted: Best damned state in the entire country. View Quote This. Took some Dutch exchange students from UF shooting yesterday. Biggest problem was it was hot and sunny at the range. Taking them out on our boat today to fish and gonna stop at Gators tonight in John's Pass to watch the game. |

We went to a state park with a lake full of gators. Despite many, many warning signs there are still always idiots bringing their small children right to the water's edge.

I lived in Jax for three years and really enjoyed it. Tallahassee is nice too. PLENTY of outdoor stuff to do as long as you can tolerate the heat.
I like the panhandle but I like central and south Florida too. |
|
Come a little further south if you want to see where all the crazy originates from.
|

|
Leave Jax
Get on US 1, drive until it ends; enjoy the journey. You usually see gators when it's the least convenient for you |

Nice and cool outside...Sitting on my back porch. drinking coffee.. watching the coots play in the lake!
I can never seem to find all the craziness that people speak of about Florida. |

If you took Los Angeles and added lots of water it would expand into a large dick shaped land mass called Florida.
I like Florida, it's got an eclectic mix of weird, wonderful, horrible, luxury, poverty, beauty, ugly, spectacle, fun, and wtf. It's really got a lot of everything. |
|
I went to Florida once for a convention. There weren't any hills so I couldn't really see much. They have huge ditches.

born and raised down here, love it
I'm also perfectly intelligible when I speak. Some new englanders on the otherhand |

It's a cool place to live. I'm in the Panhandle, so it's not really Florida. I'm not fond of the heat and humidity, the tourists and the traffic. But the fishing is great, gun laws are decent, and we have the best news stories and crazy people.
Pretty close to,other large cities to visit, a few hours from New Orleans, Jacksonville, Six hours to Orlando, about the same to Atlanta. Florida is not too bad. |

|
|
My father lives there.
The first time my son saw the lizards he was 3 and ran up to my wife and I excitedly proclaiming,"Dad, Dad, I found baby dinosaurs!! Priceless... |
|
I am currently sitting in a beach house on Anna Maria Island with a view of Tampa Bay one way and the Gulf of Mexico the other.

I still have family there, my brother is in New Tampa. He's doing great but my extended family there has always been on the poorer end of the stick. So I see a bit of what the OP saw whenever I go down to visit. But I wouldn't change it for the world. I miss the palmettos and gators and boiled peanuts. My daughter loves the lizards scurrying around everywhere. And I do miss the heat. |

Seems every loser from someplace else ends up in Fl, or they are annoying retirees from Jersey.

I've lived in Jax for a year now. I love it here.
Heading to Gville here in a few. Gators are going down |
|
Born and raised in Orlando and still have family there. I loved growing up there camping, fishing and hunting all the time. I really miss the fishing, the craziness not so much. Moved to Georgia years ago and love it. The craziness seems to get worse every day. My sister tells me all the time this or that was stolen from her house or in the neighbor hood.

Yeah, but just a few miles north is B-21 Liquors. That's GOT to count for something! |

I don't miss tropical storms and the clockwork afternoon thunderstorms in the summertime.
I definitely don't miss the heat & humidity. I hear they're finally going to re-design the airport road area...AGAIN. Shame the northside just exploded with stores and people. |
