Wife and I are watching Quantum of Solace, and this topic inevitably come up. Best Bond actor in your opinion (and I mean, purely the best Bond, all personal views of the actor aside)? |

Just wrapped up the Daniel Craig series. He was pretty damn good.

I like Craig. I also like hey they made him a little more banged up at times than the old ones, so that influences my decision
I also don't find him as cheesy |

(I hate his views, but props for his being married to sweet and beautiful Rachel Weisz) |

View Quote I'm old school as well. I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond but as I watched more of Connery's movies the more I liked him as Bond. Bond is a gentleman spy. That's Connery. Moore is a playboy spy. Never really could accept the guys who came later. Quantum is the only Craig movie I've seen and it was a fine action movie. It just wasn't a James Bond movie as I know him. |

Craig. He came off much more realistic to me than any other Bond.Connery is number 2 but the none of the rest looked like they could fight their way out of much so them being some super bad ass spy was a reach at best. With Craig they ditched the previous campiness of the series which I liked.
ETA: To me Bond is a stone cold killer with a weakness for the fairer sex. IMHO Craig puts the right amount of disconnect and feeling into the movies that the character needs. He comes across as a man that is dedicated to his job but would like nothing more than someone to love and be loved by.However; he knows any kind of meaningful relationship is off the table for him because of his job. |

Daniel Craig hands down for me.
I grew up with Connery, Moore, and Dalton, and enjoyed Brosnan especially in Goldeneye. But I read Flemming and have always thought of Bond as the Casino Royale veteran. Craig nailed Casino Royale and brought a real grit to Bond that Dalton tried to do, but wasn't given the development that the franchise put into other productions, or the energy and attention that Flemming put into his alter ego fantasy in the first book. |

I really liked Timothy Dalton's movies.
Heck, though, I thought Lazenby did a good job, but prefer Dalton. |
|
[#18]
Sean Connery.
IMO Daniel Craig may be badass, but he isn't suave like Sean Connery or Roger Moore, or even Pierce Brosnan. |
|
[#19]
Craig, because he's pretty much the polar opposite of James Bond in real life. That's acting folks.

I grew up on Roger Moore, but I would rank them as Craig, Connery, Brosnan.
Goldeneye is probably my favorite, though. Brosnan did draw some crappy scripts at the end. The one with Denise Richards sucked. |
|
[#22]
1) Connery ("Theory" Bond)
2) Craig ("Practical" Bond) 3) whatever, dont care. |

I like the earlier distinction made above about the "gentleman spy" vs. the "playboy spy" archetype. I think it explains why I disliked Moore and Brosnan, and why I prefer Dalton over Craig. |

Brosnon was the perfect playboy Bond.
Connery was the perfect gentleman Bond. Craig is the perfect gritty action Bond. |

I'm tainted because I began watching Bond with Moonraker, because I was a teen in the 80's. So, for me, Sir Roger Moore is Bond. I do like Daniel Craig, because he's better at action scenes.
Moore was more suave and could pull off the "visiting business man / banker." |

Connery. Not sure why everyone is saying gentleman. He had no qualms slapping or chocking a gal even in the films.

Craig is way different from the others. He brings a tougher, brasher bond. The most recent movies are better than those old silly ones.
I'm not sure if the rope / chair scene was really necessary, but that aside I liked the movies. |
|
[#49]
I though the Pierce Bronsen captured that essential Bond of being swave, sophisticated, handsome, and a stone cold killer about as good as anyone could. Sean Connery was next. Craig has the killer part, but cannot pull off the rest.
