I have read posts where people say if they are wearing pants they have a holster and handgun on their hip
but even inside your home ?
I keep a couple of guns loaded inside my home but never even thought to carry one while inside my home.

What do you do with your carry gun when you get home?

I never carried a gun.

A soft pistol-bag like Boyt makes will work for in home carry if you don't like the idea of having a door or window between you and your gun.

Dont ask me how i know that.

And you have a greater chance of a meteor landing on you, than having your home invaded, or being killed in a terrorist attack. If you just like to wear your gun then say so, but if you really are afraid of having your home invaded at any time, you need to fucking move out of Liberia.

Yes.

It takes time to retrieve a firearm from your preferred storage spot.

It takes much less time to retrieve a firearm from your holster.

I just recently started carrying a gun when I leave my home but most times I still forget to grab it.

I'm not new to guns at all and own many . I keep one in my bedroom and one down stairs in my basement loaded .
Maybe it's just living in a small town where I never think of a home invasion happening .

I can always tell the people who have barely begun considering self defense. They always make the same comment:

"What are the odds?"

My response is always the same:

"What are the stakes?"

See, if I want to gamble, I'll take a couple hundred bucks to the casino and play blackjack. I'm unwilling to gamble the lives of my wife and children. Therefore, I will take every advantage I can get when the dice come up snake-eyes and I come face-to-face with a sociopath. Best advantage in that situation?  A loaded firearm near to hand, combined with the will and skill to use it.

And as far as the idea that you're safe in your own home?  Ridiculous. The very first true crime book ever written was In Cold Blood, back in the '60's. If Herb Clutter wasn't safe in Holcomb, KS, why the hell would you assume that you are today?  That's just willful ignorance of fact.

I'm sure this is sarcasm but.....

I've got a Glock 42 and a clip draw for just that reason because a lot of days if I'm off bumming around the house gym shorts or sweat pants are what I'm wearing. I know a lot of people here hate the concept of clip draws but holsters don't work with those types of pants.

What's the point of buying a gun and learning how to use it if you don't keep it on you ready to use?  While self-defense situations are rare, when they come they often don't allow much time to shift your mindset and go get equipped.  Better to be ready to go in the moment should it ever come.

Why not wear body armor 24/7 for the same reason?

Body armor is hot and fairly uncomfortable. I've got some AR500 plates in a carrier in my closet. If I have the time I can throw them on and increase my odds of successfully defending my home but I wouldn't want the discomfort or inconvenience of wearing them all day. I don't really notice the gun on my hip.

I literally laugh out loud when this topic comes up and I read the comments.  Me thinks most of the people who say they carry in the home full time are liars. Either that or they are paranoid schizophrenic. But that's just my opinion man.

The bottom line is.  I feel safe here in my home.  If I didn't then I would move to someplace where I could.

When I enter my house the Doors are secured, the gun comes off along with my clothes.  I like to relax when I am home.  Spend most of the time here lounging around and snuggling with my female.  Life is to short to walk around my own home believing someone is always coming to try and take it or kill me. There are plans in place for if a situation like that would occur, but it's not what drives me.

I don't carry in my home, either, but these threads are full of people that look down their noses at those who do carry.  Calling someone who carries in their own home a paranoid schizophrenic is something I would expect to hear from a libtard.

Your bottom line is relative.  I feel safe in my entire city. If I didn't, I would move.  I still carry outside of my home.

I live in a nice neighborhood full of $200k homes in a small town with no housing projects that hasn't had a homicide in over 15 years. So statistically it should be about as safe as one can get but last year two homes on my street were invaded in broad daylight (nobody home so they were only burgled) which made me reconsider my home security protocols. Bad shit happens everywhere and the scumbags that invade homes like to go to the "good neighborhoods" too. Why not rob people who have stuff worth stealing? I hardened my home and started leaving the gun on my hip. Not really paranoia and it's not like I un holster and go around clearing the rooms when I get back (cameras and motion detectors make that redundant ).

Not as much as I should, but I'm getting in the habit. I live out in the middle of nowhere in a very low crime part of the state, but the meth heads around here break into homes that fit the description of mine. Isolated and new. Always have one in reach but I'm starting to carry on me. I've got a little one on the way so I'm trying to adjust my firearms habits at the house.

OP, when you carry for a while, you get to a point where you dont even notice it. Sorta like your wallet. Not a big deal leaving it holstered while at home. Once in a while, I'll notice I dont "feel" the holster while sitting and I'll wiggle my hip to mike sure its there.

I wear shorts 99.9% of the time in FL, but a leather gun belt fits in pretty well anyway. I carry at home nearly all the time, and have even fallen asleep wearing my shorts with my CCW still tucked in the holster, to include my EDC pocket knife clipped in my shorts pocket-oops.

Then I also keep a couple strategically placed home-defense hand guns, locked in those small GunVault lock boxes (electronic finger code shaped into the top of the lid). Those should allow me time to get to the safe where the real home defense tools, body armor, etc. are waiting 24/7.

Yes. If I am wearing pants, I am wearing at least one gun.

When someone breaks down your door, you may or may not have time to draw, let alone retrieve your weapon from whatever hiding place you have it in.

It's simply good tactics. I wear the gun the rest of the day, why can't I wear it at home?

ETA: it's also a security issue with kids in the home. I can't have stash guns laying around unsecured.

Sometimes. I always have a gun close by though.

The part that baffles me is the people that say they always carry at home, and then never take any real security measures. How hard is it to put up a couple security lights, put read deadbolts on your doors, and have slide bars on every window? Super easy, cost is under 1000 dollars, yet most people never do those things.

Good for you.

I live in a good area of Vegas as mentioned before.  I live in the same HOA as Floyd Mayweather, but not the same subdivision.  Median income is in the mid-high $80k range.

We also have an understaffed police force and an epidemic of robberies and home invasions.  In my previous neighborhood, only a few miles away,  we had multiple times where individuals tried to gain entry.  In that neighborhood, we were hearing of 2-3 break-ins a day.  Many involved the family being home.

One of the violent home invasions was talked about a bunch on here.  Hoodlum took turns raping the homeowner (who turned out to be a porn star). Another invasion the mother chased the bad guys out with a sword.

I don't sit around expecting the door to come crashing open every moment, but I do keep a pistol on me at home.  It's not about being paranoid, but realistically evaluating the possible threats and mitigating them.

I have also had the experience, years ago, of chasing a robber out of my home at gun point in the middle of the night.
