I wanted a holster for my new Glock 43 so I bought a DeSantis because it was available in a couple of days with prime shipping from Amazon-good luck walking into a gun store around here and finding a holster for a 43. I forgot how much I hate thumb snap holsters. Who buys these stupid things? I've never had a pistol come loose from a decent holster. I doubt I would survive whatever could knock my glock 19 out of my Kramer.

... Everyone is different. I prefer them, especially for 1911s

I call my holster box, the trail of tears.
Went to making my own. |
I wear one when I ride my bike because I really don't want a potential bad day to get worse because of level one retention.
past that, yeah, they suck. |
Buy an RCS, instant retention (well good enough for light duty, or conceal carry).
I like the German police issue thumb snap that came with my Sig 225.
I have a larger snap holster for my g19. I don't use it often, but it is comfortable and nice for working outside.

People in the know, realized they were a shitty idea when they came out! They were a big deal for agencies, never gained favor with individual shooters!

I prefer a thumb strap for single action autos. It's how I trained in the '80's, so they feel natural to me.

Science is safety, thumb snaps are science, snap your holster and your weapon will not fire. Me on the other hand use a leather thong, barely riding on my SSA Colt. Do you feel lucky, huh punk?
Snaps are just like those secret buttons you have to find and push before your draw from your gay holsters. OSHA sucks . |

I know what the fletch is. I like Galco and all, I have had a few thumb breaks but stopped using them at least ten years ago. I have never come close to losing a pistol out of a holster View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I really like my 6004. But it has a thumb hood and not a snap. OC is a no go here anyway.
I'm going to try a Alien cloak 3.0 for my 43. |

Having worked in uniform among crowds, I'm a believer in some sort of retention device.
Why do so many shooters care so much about what other shooters like?
I have one leather tumble snap retention holster for my G17. It's for days when I OC.
I have carried 1911s for 20 years in leather and kydex.
NEVER have used a thumb snap holster. They make everything worse. |
I have a Galco ankle holster that is a thumb snap for my G26. Sold all of my belt holsters that were thumb snap. I wish Safariland would make a 7ts ALS ankle holster with a nice neoprene cuff.
My only holster with a snap is my Alessi shoulder rig, but its not a thumb snap - rather a speed break snap. No snaps on a belt holster thank you.
View Quote I LOVE my ALS Safariland. I use mine with an M&P and a weapon light for my battle belt. A bunch of MARSOC guys that I worked with used these for their 1911's and G19s. No problems on SWCC boats, jumps, or swimming |
I agree, but I'm fond of kydex.
ETA: And thumb snap holster for striker fired pistols is a bad idea. |
I am waiting on a kydex for my 43 made by primary holsters who I saw here.
I have a number of leather holsters sans thumb breaks made by a local leather smith, he has not started any for the 43 except an IWB |
Rocking a thumb-break OWB on my CZ 75 Compact cocked and locked all day long. Thumb-break OWB holster is best OWB holster. Obviously, YMMV. |
it's 2015, kydex is the only thing holsters should be made from, and as such, no thumb snap is needed.
I've got a thumb break for my G17, I like some form of additional retention when I decide to go crashing around in the forest, or do other dumb things that might end up with me and what I wear being drug, snagged, or tumbled.
For the average CCWer, an open top is probably fine. For more strenuous activities than walking from house-to-car-to-work-to-stripclub-to-ATMbecauseBrandeelovesyou-to-car-to-home, you'll probably want something with more positive retention.
