Can you redeem yourselves? Can the Hive predict the outcome of this test accurately?

Spartan Armor Systems Armaply ATC level III+ steel plate shot with five rounds of 5.56mm Black Hills 50 gr TSX fired from a 20" Colt AR-15 A2 with an approximate velocity of 3,542 fps.

Lol, actually I tested it today with my friend's. It read about 30fps slower than his. What velocity did you get for those?

Fifty grains of copper @ 3500 fps?

Blows right through.

When it comes to steel plate, velocity wins.

I'm wondering if it will cause a spall to break off the back side of the plate.

Ivy Mike V2.0 is my prediction.

ETA:   the chrono we checked his with was a Pact 24 circa sometime in the 90's.     So I guess we could both have bad chronos but maybe it's just hot here.

I wonder what it feels like to be hit while wearing steel plates...just not enough to find out.

I'm sure it hurts a lot less than a bullet hole. Based on the testing I did yesterday, I think a hit to a steel plate probably hurts less than a hit to a ceramic plate.

Nope. This plate also stopped M193.

M193 will zip through a level III plate but the only level III+ plate that I've seen it defeat is the Armour Wear "AR680" level III+.

I can do that if there is any interest, but it's going to be stopped. Lower velocity is not getting through.

It's surprising because level III steel plates are easily defeated by something this fast.

Yep.

Left me gobsmacked when it didn't penetrate.

That's some very good armor there.

For the record, AR500Armor's level III+ plate also stops M193 so it probably stops 50 gr TSX, though I don't think anyone has tested it. But it costs literally half what the Spartan plate costs.
