We have mostly black bears, and they're getting to the point of overpopulation too. I think on a 40 acre plot of land last year, we saw upwards of 10 different bears. That's A LOT. But the hunting season is 1 day, usually after they've quit really moving for the year. They never really hibernate down here, but they do slow down a good bit. Non-moving target is best target  Then you have to go find where it's holed up. There was a guy near here that crawled in a den with a pistol to find his bear, and shot it. If past history holds true he will be ready to go tomorrow if we wanted to, but I won't work him until next weekend. Except for our evening runs. Evening runs are between a half hour to an hour. On the weekends where he gets hunted on back to back days I try to limit his about 6 or 8 hours total. The last one worked up until we had to put him down at 12 years old. |
