took the American Rimfire out today to see what it would do at 100yds

5rds inside 1in at 100yds and about 1in high, considering I zeroed it in originally at 50yds

yeah I'd say I'm impressed with this little cartridge and rifle

plus whacking clay pigeons at 50yds with the Single Six .17 is pretty fun too

I have a heavy barrel savage in .17 that gets a lot of use hunting squirrels from a tree stand.

I've got a Savage that shoots remarkably accurate as long as there's no wind. Amazing little rifle.

How hard is that bore to clean?

.17 cal is getting pretty small.

Lets talk about glass for the 17 HMR.  I a Savage A17 sitting in the safe unfired and in need of some glass.

This.  It's boringly accurate without wind.  Out to 200 yards, it pops rodents in half and will touch off tannerite if you can bait in something for entertainment

Never touched the CZ but their x39 is the same awesome rifle.  Either way you'll be happy.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44mm on my FV-SR. Excellent scope, and works well with that rifle and round.

I love my Ruger 77/17, topped with a BSA Sweet 17 6-18x. It's far more accurate than I can take advantage of.

Back when .22LR was scarce or unobtainable, Cabela's shelves were buckling under the weight of all the .17HMR in stock -- which made me consider buying a .17HMR rifle (a Savage) more than once.

But now my ammo locker is buckling under the weight of all the .22LR I've amassed, so I'll just stick to making one-hole groups with my customized Savage Mark II.

Yeah get that Volquartsen so you can experience a rifle blowing up in your hands. No thanks. My friends has "only" split the case and blew the magazine out the botton of the rifle 4 or 5 times but he is still drinking that Volquartsen kool aid.

Love the Single Six 17. Hits on game at 50 yards are fun.

My favorite rifle is the CZ varmint. I shoot mine out to 300 yards.

Savage Recommended Scope -
Pair your A17 with this Bushnell 3.5-10x36 with 17 HMR BDC turret for a great varmint or target combo.

I would concur with the recommendation, mine works great. Consistent hits on prairie dog silhouettes at 200 yds.

I had a Marlin hbar that was a really fun little rifle. My gripes were that it was absolutely devastating to squirrels and rabbits.. not consistent enough to dump coyotes, and in the 07/08 timeframe, it was really expensive for a rimfire load compared to cheap .22 at the time.

It's a fun round, and surprisingly accurate,  but it does get blown around by the wind a lot. During the ammo drought I pretty much switched over to .17 HMR on my Savage exclusively.

I bought my gf a savage 17, it's all stainless steel with a bull barrel, a awsome looking bleached wood stock. That thing can zap quarters at 100 yards like the bullets were homing. It's an awsome little cartridge and a dream rifle. It does have some shitty Simmons glass on it tho.

What you need is a 17hm2.
Too bad they dropped the ball on it and ammo is hard to get these days.

Same here. 5/8" groups all day at 75 yards. Squirrel noggins don't stand a chance.

I shoot rabbits to sell to a processor for human consumption, so everything has to be head shot. I use a CZ 452 American
with a Swarozski 2.5-15x44 scope. Chopped to 18 inches. recrowned and suppessed. It is a laserbeam.
I just got a new Savage A17.Chopped to 18inches, recrowned and suppressed. Groups went from about 3inch
at 100 to about an inch and a half. Ok but not great. siliconed the hollow stock and
working on the trigger hopefully get down under an inch.

The CZ even has 3 red deer and 3 fallow deer to it's credit.

Love my Marlin Hbar, very small groups @ 1ooyds, have taken game out to 180yds, ya it shoots flat for a rimfire, in reailty it's the same as a 30-30 win.

Took many rabbits and a few foxes with my CZ.

Brilliant flat shooting round for night vision and not too loud with the suppressor.

I don't know your history with volquartsen,  but there's one sitting 10 feet from me that's been an absolute dream.  Multiple rabbits, squirrels, yotes, and even 6 deer have been slayed by it.  All headshots.  I've never cleaned it.  It runs like a top and is scary accurate.

I have a Marlin 917V that is easily my most accurate rifle out to 100m so long as the wind is pretty tame. The entire setup was like $450
