For a while - pork was pretty much the cheapest meat you could buy. Not so much now - unless it is from a prison farm.
I do have HUGE issues with the president using a religious consideration to ban pork however. Any health reasons are probably more fantasy than global warming. He just screwed an industry go appease a small religious minority. |

Pigs are good at recycling garbage back into an eatable form - hence pigs from prison farms should not be banned.

Schools and the military next... View Quote I'm glad someone else sees the writing on the wall. Prisons are the "proving grounds" for numerous social experiments. Socialized medicine, national Internet medical records, prescription drug trials, tobacco free environments, forced integration, planned and "equally portioned" meals, etc. Civil liberties are almost non-existent by design and necessity in prisons. Constant pat-searches, cell searches, and established routines, dictated by the prison administration. Today's occurrences and mandates in prisons, especially at the federal level, are tomorrows plans for society as a whole. |

However, it can actually cost more than standard meals. |

Why would the president have to intervene in the meats served by the prison system but for political reasons? My first guess would be that the democrat party shook down the pork producers and they didn't come through with ... wait for it ... enough pork. |

Just imagine that the folks that turd is targeting will be still in prisons. Otherwise there would be no reason for the ban. Could be worse and the Muslims be banned from prisons, or it's forbidden to send Muslims to prison.

Enjoyment / taste shouldn’t even be a factor… |

I'm not sure why this is making the news... (I guess cuz the Feds did it).... Pork has been off the menu at numerous county jails and state prisons (at least here) for quite some time. Since the courts have already ruled that prisons have to recognize religious diets, etc. It's not really to appease the muslims, it's a logistics thing. It's a whole lot easier to just cut pork from the menu for everyone, rather than having to have to serve 2 different meals each meal time when pork is being served. Not saying I agree w/ it, but I understand the decision.
