Today's rappers are just lame...rap in the late 80s and 90s was so much better (2pac, Eazy, Biggie, Wu tang, NWA, early Eminem)
And most rappers are more pro gun than country artists. |

There are a few bright spots but for the most part you're right... mainstream hip hop sucks.

I do kind of miss the west coast g-funk sound.
You know, there are new rock bands on indie labels (and even a few on big labels) that have a "retro" sound to them. It kind of makes me wonder if there are any rappers who long for the sound of the records in the late 80's and early 90's, and do the same thing. |

I would have just removed "New" from the title ...... Agreed. Rap, hip hop.....anything along those lines fucking sucks. Not only do I not like the style of music, I can think of no other genre that lyrically is more ridiculous, irrelevant, childish and alien to the kind of life I live and the values that matter to me. Additionally, I don't live in the hood and not only do I not share their typical values, I find the whole culture largely repugnant. Consequently, their music is complete shit.....but that's just my opinion. COMPLETE SHIT. |

Maybe I'm too old being 50, but I never got into rap. I really like the integrated metal/hard rock rap hybrid stuff like Linken Park etc. though.

View Quote At 47, I'm okay with Linkin Park and Saliva. That's about it for anything containing a rap component. And just like a previous poster alluded to... I hate everything associated with the rap/hipop scene. It's all garbage. A few of my kids think it's cool, but they'll grow out of that. The entire culture is just filth and the world would only get better if it suddenly disappeared. |

Quoted: It has since 2001. View Quote I'd say 2002-3 but yeah you are on point. The new Eminem stuff has too much sampling. Every so often a good new artist comes along, but as soon as they get a record deal their music goes to shit. For instance, I loved Yealwolf's first CD, his second was about half as good. ETA: For those who think all rap sucks, well, sorry but you are wrong. Maybe it's my urban upbringing that has jaded me, but I feel most country music sucks, and the lifestyle it is based around is alien to me. People like music they can relate to, and I can relate best to most earlier rap and some alternative rock. So that's like, your opinion, man... |

Check out A-F-R-O on YouTube. He's a young kid that can hopefully make it better.

Try listening to Atmosphere - The Best Day for example. There's lots of "indie" groups that do more storytelling and interesting songs than just rapping about how "thug" they are. Living Legends - Artsy is a funny one, all making fun of liberal douches. I listen to... Living Legends Aesop Rock Sage Francis Hieroglyphics A lot of these guys do collaborations too so you'll find members of the above doing solo or joint stuff with others that is just as good. Like Murs from Living Legends. |

Nas said it in 2006: Hip Hop is Dead
That said, I'd rather listen to rap made in the late 80's or early 90's than just about any mainstream rock/pop/country music made in the last decade and a half. You bros can keep Toby Keith and Florida Georgia Line. |
