I didn't figure I'd ever see it either, not that it makes much difference. What's wrong with Memphis can't be fixed by any mayor, no matter what color he is.

I was really hoping to see "Prince Mongo" Hodges win. Memphis deserves the ridicule that would go along with having "Mayor Prince Mongo".

My wife lived in Nashville for years but we never went to Memphis. I remember flying into see her one time and I got to her apartment before she got out of work. I flipped on the local news. They had a story about how a shop keeper came out of the back of his shop and found three robbers pointing guns at his wife.
Now in the rest of the United States the story would end with a report on how much cash they got. Well, by God, not in Tennessee! Store owner drew on the three armed robbers, shot the first one dead on the spot. 2 and 3 started to retreat, 2 got shot dead by the door out of the shop. 3 got out of the building so the shopkeeper ran after him and shot him dead in the street. "And now for the weekend weather" |

That is amusing. 4 way race with 3 black guys and 1 white guy, and the white guy wins. I guess the campaign slogan vote for the black guy fails when there were several running.

Since they got rid of the pension and don't have health insurance upon retirement, the cops who can are getting gone and the productive members of society moved to the suburbs. This city's handwriting was on the wall back when herenton got elected in '91. Actually the handwriting was on the wall in April of '68. |

He'll have to gut the city departments, board of education, and other areas chock full of nepotistic hires.
A year ago the BOE was caught with multiple persons with the same job title, invented job titles, etc. with many "employees" raking in $80k/year. Many of those "employees" didn't even have an office nor did they have any responsibilities...just collected a paycheck. IIRC, they ended up having to terminate 80 some odd persons. ETA: Memphis was once a cool city with great music/food. Had crime like any metro area, but nothing like today. As late as the early 90's it was a hopping place, but it went downhill fast. |
