A very ceap solution that i use for getting to work, and it doesnt look too bad.  A cheap, thick zipper hoody from Walmart $24underneath and a Costco hooded windbreaker shell, maybe $35.  Has worked on the coldest Michigan days, even snowblowing for hours.

I can afford some high dollar shit but just think its a waste of money since im only going from the car into work.

Yep.  I have some cheap hoodies combined with some cheap shells, some of which I've picked up brand new for $15 or so from Goodwill stores.

You guys have excellent (& expensive!) taste in outer wear. Arc'teryx LEAF Atom LT & Naga hoodie. Patagonia PCU fleece & 3A jacket. Got a Beyond PCU L6 rain suit as swag, would love to pick up some more of their PCU system. Very warm, breathable, and looks sharp too.

No idea. I reside in S. Florida. Haven't had the need for a winter jacket since 1999.

I have an earlier incarnation of this Cabela's jacket for when it is FUCKING COLD - 550 grams down insulation, coyote lined hood.  (Wolf or Coyote fur doesn't ice up the way fake fur does)  forest/dark green not grey.  Rated to  +5 to -45.  Had it for years, and every couple years I'll have a need to actually be out in -30 to -40 weather for a couple hours straight and it absolutely delivers.

Most of the time I wear something similar to this (mine is a bit longer, no zipper on sleeve), a windstopping shell that's fleece lined, rated +35 to -15

Shy of that I either reach for your basic hoody or your basic lightweight fleece

Sorry, I just retread the OP like 10 times and don't see any reference to work site requirements.  Perhaps you are in the wrong thread?  Or maybe you just put your limitations and requirements on everyone else.

I have a 5.11 parka that I like a lot.  I choose it over my Canada Goose Constable. Not as sharp as the CG though. For balls out extreme outdoor activity its a Carhart Arctic jumpsuit over an expedition weight merino wool base layer.  With that on Im ready to drink some polar bear urine with BG.

Car hart without a hood. I hate a hood.

That with a thin north face for inner lining and a wool sweater over fleece long underwear.

Throw a trappers hat (you know the ear flaps) and fleece neck gator and I'm good to go for most temps.

I do have a nice Columbia rain shell I can put over it since Carhart isn't waterproof.

A Lands' End or L.L. Bean ski jacket most of the time.  If it get really cold, which around here means mid-teens, I have the same basic thing in a parka length and I'll add a silk long sleeve tee under my sweater or shirt.

ETA: I had one of those short, hooded, Carhartt jackets with a plain flannel lining.  About froze in it.  I think I'm going to get another with the quilted lining for working in my woods, see if that's any better.

Barbour Beaufort waxed cotton with zip in liner.

Have been wearing it for close to thirty years.

Been back to the factory for servicing/re-waxing three times.

These coats will last a lifetime, or two. The more

they're worn, the better they look.

Under Armor hoodie until it gets below 30. Three in one ski jacket until well below zero. If colder, I combine the two. The last two years here have been coldest on record and its worked fine.
