I always see combat videos from Iraq and Afghanistan of gunners in HMMWVs constantly yelling to others, or reaching down and releasing ammo cans from straps to feed the MG or Mk19. What was the average ammo loadout on a truck? How about water and MREs?

As much as you can. And water.

And Butt wipes with Lanolin I imagine. I myself would refuse combat if no baby wipes with lanolin were available.

When we first went into Afghanistan I spent some dough and bought cool stuff for the ground pounders, like scope duster sticks and Lanolin butt wipes.

I found Rip Its at a gas station and nobody around me could figure out why it was such a surreal experience.

We were more concerned about keeping the cooler stocked with ripits, Gatorade shakes, shock coffees and other goodies than worry about bs stuff like ammo. We had like 6 or so cans strapped down over the radio rack in the back of the MRAPs.

We had mountains of ammo inside

Jerky, Rip its . Welded a mark 19 can in the turret and linked like 500 rounds of .50 in it

The back was always full of shit. At least a case of mres and a few cases of water. Everyone's bag, fire extinguisher, walk kit, HA and all the ammo you could stuff in there. Our main gun was the 240 but we also had 2 AT4s and a small camelbak with grenades. It's a lot like mad max.

During the 03 Invasion, I had something like 16 cans of ammo for our Mk-19 in, on and around the truck.

Doing something without ripits is like trying to fight a war without weapons.
Nearly as important as a rifle.
