I'm with Op on this one.
...although a Defender would be pretty badass as well. |

First post, a scout is one hell of a vehicle, I could pull floor mats up and see the road go by, I was depressed for about a year after it was gone. My Jeep JKU is ok but no torque like that 345 V8.

Me? Scout II. In the late 80's I had an Orange one with a white top that looked like this. (not the aftermarket lights though) Damn that thing was fun, but just disintegrated with rust. And eventually caught on fire. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/images/Rob-Scout3.jpg View Quote Good choice. Or an older Bronco. |

Ummmm......They weren't called SUV's back then.
SUV is some Madison Ave. Metrosexual Advertising word/concept to award a snowflake trophy to those vehicles that never travel off road. Before the "SUV" era ALMOST every dang vehicle that you had to get your ass out of the seat and manually lock the hubs was a pretty capable "off road" vehicle. Ya know why? Cause there was A LOT more off road back then. I would honestly take ANY pre 85 4x4 vehicle to what is available today. Okay the gas mileage sucked but you weren't going to break a transfer case. |

Not quite "pre-85", but probably close enough.
1987 Toyota 4WD-PU . . . last year of the "old" body style (favored by 99% of the worlds terrorists through about 2010) . . . and the first year of the Electronic Fuel Injected V-6 engine . . . probably the greatest motor that TOYOTA ever built. The BBC thought so much of this truck that they tried to kill one. . . . and did not succeed . . . Killing a Toyota This one, sitting in my driveway, has only 139K miles on it. I'm certain that it will outlive me. dp |

My friends dad had a Scout II that my friend and took wheelin all over the Cascades, that thing was damn near bullet proof. But I'd take a Bronco, late 70's.

View Quote Amen Brother! The one that got away. Friend had a '79 when we were in college. 351 modified and 4 speed. And ... His father ordered it with a detroit locker in the 9 inch and limited slip in the dana 44. He kept the widow sticker and won many a bet that it was that way from the factory. He traded it off for a last year '96 bronco and they didn't give him much at all ... like 800$ I could have murdered him. |

The wife and I were talking about vehicles we've had and we both agreed that the 1993 Eddie Bauer Explorer we had was probably the best one we've had.
Never got stuck, even in over 2 feet of snow. Extremely reliable and maybe the most comfortable of all the vehicles I've driven. Not good mileage due to the 4.10 gears that came with the towing package, but if they made them like that today we'd both be driving one. |

My '83 FJ60 is pretty cool. I wouldn't trade it for any other vehicle style from that era. I would like to make a ton of improvements though, lol.

K5 Blazer
Even the differential vent lines ran up to a high end in the fender. The door seal gasket joint was at the top of each door. You could drive it in water above the door jambs. |

People still can't keep head gaskets on the fuckers. I think you meant 22re. And 85 would be the best year. Last year for solid axle and fuel injection. Get that v6 bullshit out of here. |
