Netflix takes on the infamous Medellín drug cartel in "Narcos," which follows the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him. The story is told largely from the points of view of Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, and U.S. DEA Agent Steve Murphy, on opposite sides of what would become an all-out war. The gritty drama begins with the early days of the drug battle, when the biggest offenders were "hippies in flip-flops" caught with up to a kilo of marijuana, continuing to the violent, bloody battles between members of the cartel peddling tons of kilos of cocaine and drug agents from Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. -- a struggle estimated to have cost at least 4,000 lives over two decades. Pedro Pascal co-stars as Mexican DEA Agent Javier Peña. - Wikipedia

Narcos Trailer

Any else planning on catching this show? Looks pretty good to me. From what I have read there will be a lot of subtitles but that doesn't bother me.

Lol @ 1:27, check out the flat top AR with a scope held on with a single ring. Not to mention they didn't exist in 84.

Lol, that was my first thought. Right when I watched that episode recently, or series of episodes, I saw that Benicio actually ended up making a movie about Escobar this year. It's almost prophetic.

Just watched episode one. I liked the way they set up the backdrop for Escobar's story and how he built his distribution into the U.S. I'll give it a chance and watch a few more.

It's a good series if you can get past all the shitty prop guns. but that was a pretty hard thing to do for me

Agreed. I just finished the series. It was pretty damn good.

Wish my boy Vinny Chase was in it!

We are enjoying it.

I don't know if the producers intended it to portray the DEA and American drug policy negatively,

but it certainly makes it clear that the DEA didn't have much problem breaking the law or rules

to score fleeting meaningless "wins".  Also, the futility of waging a war on drugs when a bunch

of third world farmers can produce enough for one man to make $60,000,000 a day (in the 1980's

when 60 million dollars a day was still real money).

As stated, other than the gun props used...  It's pretty good.  Pretty sure in Episode 5 there is a shot of an AR without any sights on it.  I just face palmed it

I've always been interested in the type of life style these guys have. It can't be all that good, you have to constantly watch your back, fail to pay your people enough and they shoot you or hand you in to the cops.

How do they live? How do they enjoy all that money? I'd imagine they don't have bank accounts (Too easy to trace  / cease the money, so they probably have 30billion laying around some where, they need to keep track of that some how.

How do you buy a helicopter or private jet or mega yacht with cash? I'd imagine it wouldn't be easy.

Can they really ever relax and enjoy the money without worrying about cops and other drug gangs after your lot and even your own blokes trying to take your place?

I like it, but the subtitles make it hard to watch. I'm nearly always doing something in addition to watching tv like cleaning guns, cooking, ect. So it's hard to find time to sit down and only watch tv to make sure I catch subtitles.

Watched the first episode last night.

Wonder if George Jung will make an appearance?  Depp played George in the movie Blow, George was a mule for Escobar.

Just what I came to post.... it was a futile effort then & now..... only serves to waste more lives & ensure more violence...

When Escobar receives the briefing from Valeria on how the new presidential candidate is just like him, who worked his way up from nothing, I started to hope Pablo would realize he had in fact gotten what he wanted just in a different way.

Yes, I knew the show would go a different route but it's just one of those "the road not taken" moments...
