Looked like he shot the camera man first, then the reporter. But he let the interviewee go. Seems to calculated to be some random shooting. View Quote Maybe it was someone this duo had done a story on in the past who was pissed at them for some reason or other? At first I figured it was just a pissed off jealous ex when it sounded like the reporter and camera guy were romantically involved with each other. But now it seems the two were engaged to different people. So the jealous ex-lover angle doesn't make as much sense now. There would have been no reason to kill both of them, unless the shooter just viewed the camera guy as a threat to him. I dunno. It is hard to make sense out of the absurd. |

I'm going to make the assumption that the gunman knew they were live, and wanted this to be broadcast on TV.
The timing was intentional to send a message. |

Seems like jilted lover, but the fact he got cameraman, but left the interviewee, could imply a beef with CBS.

Just wait. The media will start talking again about the shooting at Virginia Tech which is only 40 miles away. This will be bad for gun owners especially since it was caught all on live TV for everyone to view. What people really need to take notice of is that there was no one else around. No police. No other citizens. Just two people from the news station doing their job and the interviewee. And then they need to take a step back and see just how vulnerable they were. If they had been armed and least they would have had a fighting chance. The cameraman was screwed but the reporter would have had time to react and maybe at least gone out fighting. We are conditioned to be victims. It's a shitty world. How many reporters have you heard of are pro-gun people?? Next to none. My point criminals will still have guns whereas if one of the victims had a means to protect themselves at least there would be a chance. The cameraman had 0 time to react, but the reporter could have had a chance. Obviously that changes nothing now but if people's mindset were different then maybe in the future someone can prevent a tragedy like this happening. |

One victim had his back to the perp, the other had a microphone in her hand and was looking into the camera. Neither would have had a fighting chance, regardless.
