Now they can sit back and collect the fees from people who have to have them in order to stay employed in their fields. Truck drivers. Merchant mariners. Longshoremen. Railroad employees. What a fucking farce. |

I've had one for 6 years and never not once not one single time has it been scanned in one of those special twic scanners. All I have ever done is shown it to some fucking rent-a-cop who asks to see my drivers license anyway.
The first time I showed it at the airport to the worthless TSA fucks they wouldn't accept it. I told them it was issued by their fucking agency when the argued with me I told them to get their supervisor. The supervisor looked at it and waved me right through. I'm going to get some use out of it by god. |

Don't need a TWIC card, but did just submit for my HME last week. First time back in 2011 it took a few weeks. Sent you an IM Not sure where you're at but for your question... No, didn't get a timeframe for when they'll finish with my background check. They said they'll contact me by phone and letter when it's done. My endorsement expires in October, so I figured I'd get it started now just to make sure I have everything ready when I go in to re-test for my HAZMAT. We don't need a TWIC card up here, but I believe the guys down in Texas do. Most fuel hauling jobs require a couple years experience driving. I lucked out and only had about 6 months driving experience, but got referred by another driver. Been doing it now for over three years, and wouldn't do any other type of driving. We run 5-6 days a week, usually 8-10 hours a day, home every night/day. Started off driving out of the Military, hauling frac water, but glad I got the opportunity to haul fuel...Oilfield kind of sucks right now. The refined side should always be steady unless a total collapse of the economy happens, everybody uses diesel and gas. My suggestion is to hang around (busy) truck stops and ask the drivers making fuel deliveries about job openings and the regional managers contact info. We have between 8-10 loads of diesel delivered per day at our Cheyenne store, so there is a driver showing up at least every couple hours. Don't know about other companies, but we get referral bonuses if a new driver stays on for a certain amount of time. |

It didn't take too long. Less than two weeks. They have an office devoted to just doing TWIC cards here in podunk LA for all the chemical plant and refinery workers, not sure if that helped on the time or not.
I have to have it for entering some of the chemical plants and refineries. TWIC has become a crutch for places to require it and let the federal government do all the work. I can see some of them because they have a dock on the MS river and such .... |

I recently renewed after 6 months of it being expired. Took 1 day to approve, still waiting on the card after a week. I'll let you know when it gets here.

Shoot me your info in a PM and I can pass it along to our regional manager if you would like. But you will need a clean record. |

USCG will not renew your license without a valid TWIC. Never tried to use it in the airport but I have friends that do all the time. Other than that there has been only one port that asked for it to enter. Pretty much a giant waist of money from what I can tell. Maybe it prevents people with questionable backgrounds from getting certain jobs?

Just like post 9/11 hazmat; TWIC is a false security umbrella that keeps hard working truckers down. for many years I pulled hazmat loads with no problem then when new hazmat regs came around and all the money and hassles I stopped hauling it. I was forced to get a twic card and it took about a month. Before that I saw no problems with the old system in the ports of just showing an ID.
ETA: I don't think a terrorist would bother with a twic card or getting special hazmat permits. To my knowledge they didn't have a pilots lic on 9/11 - just more money for uncle sam and a solution to a problem that was never there but caused more problems that solved. |

Why just truckers? Boat captain here...
In the captain's process, the TWIC card was the easiest part. Took an hour or less and had it in hand 10 days later. |

You still got to pay $100 for our "security escort" to ride with you out to the wharf to be unloaded." Or you could pay $500 for their port access card if you regularly have to go there. That or the Port of Baltimore making you drop your trailer and their guy hauls it out to be (over)loaded and then bring it back to you, sealed. TWIC might be useful in some locations. But the ports are so screwed up I doubt that they will ever accept the TWIC, because it isn't their little empire's moneymaker. |
