Eta - Joe and those involved in the scandal should burn for what they did, but leave the fans out of it. School pride and support for a team of fellow students, goes beyond the game of football. No one currently on the team, nor the current students, nor 98% of the fans support what happened. If you want to run your mouth and post pics of people who weren't involved, please send me pics of you so I can post them in a topic on violent gun owners, since you have as much in common with them as the fans and students do with what happened. You're painting with a really broad brush and are talking shit on a group consisting of a large majority of very good people who are embarrassed and ashamed of what happened.

Jerry Sandusky (fans)/Joe Paterno (fans)/child rape (fans)/Penn State (fans).

There is some strong derp on both sides of the argument.

I remember keith olbermann coming under fire for attacking a charity the school has had in place long before the whole scandal, basically saying if you went to Penn State, even if you didn't give a shit about football and were just there for academic reasons, you were a horrible person and your degree should be worthless, regardless of what you have been able to do for the community and with your career.

The whole ZOMG YOU WENT TO PENN STATE YOU BE DA DEBIL is exactly the type of broad brush painting that everybody on here should be able to realize as a tactic that is used against them.

So, if you find other examples of criminal behavior at other Bg 5 schools, it excuses the butt-fucking of children in the locker rooms at Penn State? Is that what you are saying?

Yea that makes it all better and okay

There is crime all over the place and some gets covered up. Does that somehow mean the ones who are caught red handed should be forgiven  I think NOT.

And even some of the most outspoken on the "fuck Penn State" band wagon (one that I used to be a part of, in all honesty) came out and attacked.

When time passed, and I was able to put things in perspective, I started realizing how what happened was horrible, but the people still holding torches and pitch forks for anything and everything to do with the university and those involved with the university aren't exactly being logical.

The bad guys are gone.  They were punished.  The program was flushed, punished, and rebuilt.  What the fuck else do you want, and how would anything else help what happened?

It would crush the local economy, put small business out of business, and really hurt the lives of people who have no connection to the program other than living in the same small town in which the university is located.

When do we get to punish all gun owners for the violent crimes committed by sick and twisted individuals?

Set and example and a GOOD one by punishing the perps and all involved in the cover up, including the university and leadership there.

If crime were punished in an efficient and strict manner there would be a lot less of it. If there are consequences to the sin people will be less likely to commit it. If some of the rapists were taken into the public square and hung there would be less rape. If murders knew they were going to be put to death for committing murder there would be less of it.

The crime and the cover up at penn state was against little boys. They were raped and sodomized by a sick, evil person and the crime was covered up by sick, evil people. Now sick evil people are justifying the crime just to keep their almighty football team.

If that was your son then what? Would it be as easy to forgive and forget then? Children were scared for life. The program needed to be scared for life and done away with

Paying Eric Dickerson and a few others, which every school did and still does, was MUCH worse than covering up decades of raping little boys. Right?

Under the color of the school no less. They even allowed the homosexual pedophile to use the facilities for raping after he was fired.

Nice.

BAD ANALOGY: If gun owners covered up crime then then need to be punished. That is the difference. You will have to do better than that

So the local economy can't suffer even at the expense of children? If it were your child things would be different. Go ahead and say not but if that isn't the case then you don't deserve children. I couldn't care less if the whole city were to shut down. Children were harmed and it was covered up and allowed to continue for years by the leadership of the university.

People are pathetic

So just for the record, you are saying it should not be individuals who are held accountable, but programs, or more importantly, organizations, that should be held accountable for what individuals did.  Right?

The organization knew about it and covered up / condoned it.

So the Catholic Church....?

Thing is, you watch the "fans " in interviews and the subtle language they use is that of enablers and apologists.

They say stuff like, "the media shouldn't be showing all the bad stuff"

They are only sad that this stuff was exposed, cause it makes their tailgating slightly less fun.

Their devotion to football that flies in the face of all rationale and reason just shows that religious extremism  can take all forms and infect any society.

The program needed to be trashed. The big money talked and of course all is forgiven. The trash that ran the program and covered up the pathetic behavior all needed to be put in prison. The fans who support them are sick. They are willing to overlook anything to keep their almighty pathetic football program.'

I am sure many on here support them and wanted to see the sanctions, etc lifted. You are as pathetic and sick as the trash that committed the crime

What is that going to accomplish?  There were some sick individuals, that did sick shit, and the paid the price.

What is giving them the proverbial death penalty going to accomplish?  Other than feels.

Set and example and a GOOD one by punishing the perps and all involved in the cover up, including the university and leadership there.

If they were part of the crime YES! They covered it up and allowed it to continue for years. If a crime were committed and they university dealt with it promptly and didn't allow it to continue and cover it up then no but that is not the case at penn state.
