Lots of new big damn heroes to tally up, I will bring the count up to current later today. It's my birthday today and this isn't exactly how I envisioned it.
I have received several messages and emails and I will be getting back with you but today is family day so any posting or reading will be on the phone. This afternoon or evening when I'm in front of the computer I will make sure to get responses out. A big thank you to all of you big damn heroes and to those who have not yet joined the ranks. |

Good Luck, and I mean it.
Hope you get your life back together. Gordon |

Zack, we are not hero's. We are just helping someone out.
Happy birthday! |

Stop it with the hero stuff. A lot of people have helped me out along the road of life. Sometimes it's just the right thing to do to pay it forward. Good luck man.
Edit: Happy Birthday day! |

Any updates on the house coming this week?
And I drank a beer (perhaps more) for your bday |
|
Not really. A little work on minor cleanup but nothing too exciting until I hear back from insurance. Hurry up and wait.
I had a pretty good day. Not really on my birthday but the day after. I did this: linky It was a good day. |

Update: Spent about an hour in the house trying to find anything that was serviceable. I found a few shirts that might be able to be saved. I dug around the ash pile where the surefire can was for a good 20 minutes, I was unable to recover it. I am not 100% sure it's dead, but things are not looking good. I also saved a tripod (all the steel bits are rusty and it smells like ass but it's alive), my macro rail(just like the tripod), and a few odds and ends, like this arfcom zippo http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/IMAG0985_zpslaafpcxp.jpg and one of my original team coins, #030 Edit to add horrible potato pics of coin: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/IMAG0987_zpsaiasgawk.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/zack3gpics/IMAG0986_zpsbejnoler.jpg The coin survived but it's in really rough shape. View Quote I'm sure you don't want to, but I will trade you a shiny silver coin with the BFL for your coin. |
|
That coin is now a one-of-a-kind item, with some memories attached, methinks.

That coin is now a one-of-a-kind item, with some memories attached, methinks. View Quote It's always been my favorite piece of ARFCOM memorabilia. The zippo may well go up for auction in this thread later on this week. I acquired it in a charity auction, pretty sure anyway. It would help raise some cash and awareness, and go to a good home. As for the coin, trading it for a BFL silver, aside from being a lopsided as all hell trade, there's loads of those BFL silver coins out there..only one well roasted #030 from the original run. |
|
So the tripod isn't quite as alive as I thought it was. Between the rust on all the shiny bits, the structural damage (mainly the seals containing oil no longer holding said oil in) and the just plain gone mounting plate, I'm calling it KIA.
I'm going to be listing my ARFCOM Zippo #9 up for auction here in this thread starting tomorrow. I'll let it run through the weekend. It's a nice piece of ARFCOM memorabilia for people who are into such things. It appears to be undamaged (I've never filled it or tested the sparker, though, I got it just to have) but there is a smoke smell to it. Up to 56 big damn heroes. A big thank you to each and every one. The worst part about all this now is the waiting. I've pretty well made peace with the circumstances of the fire itself. I can't really go back to work either offshore or locally. I need to be available when the phone rings. Hell, I try my best to avoid even going to town for a few hours. I don't know what is going to happen when that call comes in, but I feel like a prisoner waiting on the insurance people. That call will tell me exactly how fucked I am, and it will really set things in motion on putting stuff back together. Until then, it's a waiting game. |

You know, after thinking about it, I don't even smoke, save for a couple cigars a year, and you don't light a good cigar with a Zippo. So, why don't you take Ol' Number 9 and auction it off again?

Zippo #9 of 125 started its journey with AR15.com member Sparsky.
I originally thought I bought it in a charity auction, but I didn't. I got one of my team coins that way, though. He put it up for sale on the EE back in 2006. I was second in line. First guy bailed, I got it. Then kpel308 owned it, for a few hours at least. It has returned to me. Who will own it next? The auction begins again tomorrow! |

I heard from the insurance guy yesterday. They expect to be finishing up within the next 2 weeks.
I still don't know how big of a hole I'm gonna be in when that's all over. Right now, I'm just trying to make it to the settlement, after that, who knows. I've had a couple offers to buy the house/land already, so that's interesting. |

Zack,
I finally had some extra money laying around. GOFUNDME sent. Sam |

Sucks dude.
I lost everything I owned to Katrina. My wife was about to begin grad school at Tulane. We had just moved in and had been there exactly 29 days. Didn't have any flood insurance so... It takes a while to get back what you lost. Hang in there. |
