....to quote the Executive Officer of a Stryker platoon we supported throughout their tour in Iraq ...

"You all do more than just slapping a yellow ribbon on the back of a truck"

A brief history of how we came to be as described in a compilation of posts by GR8TWYT:

TEAM RANSTAD was so named by the troops of the Recon/Sniper Platoon "Hatchet” during their deployment to Afghanistan May 2007- July 2008.  RetMAC and I served together aboard the USS Spruance (DD-963).  RetMAC was the ship’s Chief Master-Arms and I was part of the team he formed and trained for the ship’s self-defense in preparation for our deployment to the Persian Gulf in 1988 to confront Iranian aggression. Upon the ship’s return to the States I met his son Nick (who was 9-years old at the time) during a "Tiger Cruise” where sons of the ship’s crew were allowed on-board for a 3-day cruise.

I left the Navy shortly after; RetMAC continued his career until he retired after 20-years of service. In late May or early June of 2007 we reconnected on a Navy website and RetMAC told me that Nick was now grown up and had just deployed with the 1-91st Airborne Cavalry, 173rd Airborne Combat Brigade, Recon/Sniper Platoon "Hatchet”. The platoon was assigned to an extremely remote Forward Operating Base in the Hindu Kush mountains of northeastern Afghanistan on the Pakistani border with just a river separating the two countries.

Being a member of ARFCOM I started a forum asking other members if they’d be interested in sending boxes to the platoon - the response was overwhelming! The platoon started to receive boxes filled with not only just American treats, but movies, books, socks, heat packs, baby wipes, hibachi’s, field showers, etc., not only from ARFCOM members - but also equipment and gear from industry partners like Battery Station; LaRue Tactical; Tactical Girls; Tactical Night Vision; and the list goes on and on.  Christmas that year resulted in over 250 boxes!! A Chinook helicopter was once filled with nothing but boxes for the platoon!!  This resulted with the troops of the platoon saying if they needed anything…

"Let Ranstad know … his Team will help!”

Thus, we became who we are and we wear that title proudly! We have continued to do the same since. It has become our calling, so to speak. We have continued to "adopt” front-line units as
they rotate in and out of both Iraq, Afghanistan, or any overseas front-line AO.  And we do what we do - accepting that name as the ultimate compliment .

THIS is what we do...
(Nick "SnakeaterM24" – Forward Operating Base Bostic – Afghanistan Christmas 2007)
Just SOME of the boxes they received!

Most ARFCOM types know by now that our namesake still holds the recognized U.S. Army sniper record with a confirmed kill at 1.3 miles with his Barrett .50 rifle.  He's done two interviews with Radio Free ARFCOM; a National Geographic segment in the program "Snipers, Inc."; another segment, this time with the Discovery Channel's program
"101 Weapons That Changed the World" (#75); and his Afghan Ghille suit is now on permanent display in the National Rifle Association's Museum in Virginia.

You can find all this, and more, at www.lastrosehomeport.com/sniper.html thanks to a retired Navy Chief who met Nick on the same Tiger Cruise and who has followed his accomplishments since.

NYT's Best Seller "One Second After", by Professor William R. Forstchen, was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read,
a book discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at the ramifications and dangers of an EMP strike and what it would
do to the country - written in novel form with everyday people rising to meet the challenges.

"One Year After" returns to the small town of Black Mountain and the man who struggled so hard to rebuild it in the wake of devastation.
It is a thrilling follow-up and should delight fans in every way.  If you don't win - order both from www.smile.amazon.com !!!

An EMP is a weapon with the power to destroy the entire United States power grid in a single act of terrorism - in a single second.
The country would be sent back into the 1800's, at best.  Think about that.

HAND MADE TRADITIONAL QUILT

312717

1 Prize
Value: $115.00
Made and Donated by: Team Ranstad Member (and SnakeaterM24's Aunt) Karen Ranstad

The quilt is done in the traditional curved log cabin pattern with the traditional red center block, which depicts the heart of the home.  It was made
using quilt shop quality 100% cotton jelly roll strips with the backing made up of four large squares out of fabric matching the front. The batting is
also 100% cotton and was quilted using the traditional stitch in the ditch method so as not to detract from the traditional pattern. The fabric, due to
being jelly roll strips was not pre-washed prior to quilt construction and therefore neither was the batting or backing, thus insuring that when the
quilt is washed and dried the fabrics will shrink at the same rate, which is normal.  The more the quilt is washed the softer it will get.

It is 96 inches by 95.5 inches. It will be shipped in a protective bag and will come with one sheet of Color Blocker, which should be used each time the quilt is washed.

AUTOGRAPHED COPIES OF THE "ENEMIES" TRILOGY

3 Prizes
Value: $200.00
Donated by: "RetMAC"

The NY Times Best Seller "Enemies" trilolgy written by former U.S. Navy SEAL Matt Bracken (who can apparentely see into the future). As you read these
books you will not only find yourself questioning your government's honesty ... but also asking yourself, "how in hell did he know?!"

2003. "Enemies Foreign and Domestic".  Bullets rain down upon a packed football stadium killing dozens and triggering a panic stampede which leads to a thousand more deaths.
A police marksman kills the sniper, allegedly a mentally unbalanced Desert Storm veteran holding a smoking assault rifle. It's an open and shut case according to the government,
or so so America is led to believe. In the aftermath, an outraged public demands an end to the threat posed by assault rifles and Congress passes emergency legislation
banning their private possession. American gun owners have one week to turn in their semi-automatic rifles or face mandatory five year federal prison terms.  The alleged stadium
sniper is linked to a shadowy "gun club" in southeastern Virginia, which the FBI believes is a cover for a secret right wing militia terror group.  Those who knew him the best
don't believe he was a member of any militia, or that he was guilty of the horrific mass murder.  But if he didn't fire the "assault rifle" into the stadium, who did, and why?

2006 - "Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista".  A novel about the deconstruction of the American national identity and the loss of the Southwest. Thinking it's already happening.

2009.  "Foreign Enemies And Traitors" is set in the near future in an America that is creeping steadily toward socialist tyranny, in the midst of the second Great Depression.
A year after earthquakes have devastated the Tennessee Valley, survivors are resisting demands by the federal government to relocate to FEMA refugee centers. National Guard units
have proven ineffective at forcing these survivors out of the earthquake-damaged regions, due to their reluctance to employ deadly force against fellow Americans. As a result,
the president has invited so-called foreign peacekeeping battalions to do the work of forcibly relocating the holdouts. The novel follows a small group of determined survivors
in their resistance to the foreign enemies and the American traitors who are their allies.

(Note: Might be a slight delay shipping to winners depending on how fast Matt can sign and get them to me)

AR15 HUNTER & MAD DOG .277 WOLVERINE COMPLETE CUSTOM UPPER

1 Prize
Value: $900.00
Donated by: Industry Partners "AR15 Hunter" and "Mad Dog Weapons Systems"

The 277 Wolverine was designed to effectively utilize abundant 5.56 cases and 6.8 (.277) projectiles in various weights.  It combines excellent
performance with versatility by using all standard AR15 mil-spec parts and magazines, with a barrel swap being the only thing necessary.  For the
past half-century, the choices in a compact and portable, but powerful, capable of a high ammunition load out, versatile and reliable rifle platforms
have been the AR15 or the AK47 (The 5.56 or the 7.62x39 generally speaking).  We have always wanted something that combines the attributes of both
cartridges.  So, we decided to move forward with this concept, the .277 Wolverine.

Damned birds didn't give me a heads up.

Covertness would like to donate some prizes after missing last year.

Eight hand made pens.  Retail value $75 each

Five Knight's pens representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard brothers and sisters standing on the wall

Three Phoenix pens for those who have fallen so they will rise again to fight another day.

Wanted to do more but ran out of time.  Might try and get something else in later if that's ok.

Thanks.  Somehow I'm going to find 4 more prizes to donate.  Missed last year as it was my 2nd year without a job.  Every year past I've done 6 prizes so I'm still in the red.    Got time, got a job now.  Stand by for something cool besides pens.
