That would freak you out having him come over you on the highway like that!

My Dad and I had an A-10 make several passes at us on the highway North of Vegas several years ago. He stayed with us making swooping passes at a few hundred feet up for 10 miles or so. No idea what he was doing or if he was messing with us, but we thought it was cool as shit.

There is no way I could resist the urge to try and pass. If my guesstimate is correct the car is doing right around 125mph. I don't think my f-150 would allow me to pass it. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile My GTI stokes out at 143 I could have passed him. My 01 (when I had it) stroked out at 142. That car was fun |

It's in Ukraine, not Russia, if the map is correct.
I mean, someday soon FBHO will turn his back and all of Ukraine will be Russia again, but not yet. I expect that all of Ukraine is technically a war zone, and flying that low helps with radar visibility as noted |

As a military helo pilot, I find this video awesome. I mean, fuck it. Why not?

Dunno how the poster knows, but it says the GPS was out.
"Yuri, fly close to this road so we can navigate. Don't get any higher than 50 feet, we might lose sight of it!" |

Why don't we ever see anything cool like that in the US? That was awesome. View Quote You need to come out to the CA desert. We get plenty of low passes out by Edwards, China Lake and Ft. Irwin. Not just helos. I 've been up in Cajon Pass taking train pics off one of the hills a few times and had F/A-18s come by below me. |

Don't kid yourself. The first helicopter mission I went on in the fleet was a lot like that. We had the briefing, reviewed the way points, which I dully noted. When we got out to the helicopter the pilot chucked his survival vest under the back seat in the UH1-1E, jumpers into his seat, and pulled a Texaco road map out of his ankle pocket in this flight suit. We followed the highways the whole way. At the junctions he would lower the helicopter to read the road signs. This was back in the early 70's. My son was recently watching a video of US EOD guys dealing with IED's in Iraq, and was surprised that often they would use a combat knife and their hands to dig up a small device, figuring they would have something more high tech, I told him they probably do have something more high tech, but have found that the simpler method is the most effective for some situations, and use that. Same with a pilot using know roads for navigation, sure he has access to other technology, but sometimes it is a simple as taking the highway. |

Smart move -
a) You know where the road goes b) you know there are no drastic ground height changes that will fuck your day c) you don't get a separatist Russian SAM upp your ass |

Tons of electronic warfare going on in Ukraine. Description said his GPS was down, so I guess that's how he knew where to go.

So what? I saw a General Lee replica cruising in town today.

What was the ceiling ? Im pretty sure he was flying like that because he wanted to. Had a trucker tell me he was on cruise control in the middle of west Texas nowhere when a loud noise commenced. Then a giant needle thing appeared between and just above the truck's windshield. |

125+ mph and he was keeping up.
Brings back memories. 1993 on I-15 heading through Arizona on my way back to San Diego from Chicago. I was doing about 70 in my 86 Trans am, and a couple of F4 Phantoms come ripping by overhead about 150' above the highway through the canyon. Those fuckers flew right along the highway between the canyon walls, and the noise and sight was so shocking that I jerked the wheel completely surprised by the ordeal...one of the coolest fucking things I'd ever seen. |

That sure looked like Texas roads, except the big trucks are wrong and there were no pickups.
The highway, side rails, overpass and power towers and lines looked like they do here. |

Saw something g like that with Apaches in 2008 in PA.
Pretty sure they blew me up along the way. They can hide quite well. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

They did go a little high over the bridge and wires, but better to err on the side of caution.
