One bike only,  it would have to be a supermoto.

I've had one for about 5 years now and I'm still not tired of riding it every chance I get.

I've rode it into places that the guys on pure dirtbikes give you that " how did you get here " look.   Passed guys on sportbikes doing their best Rossi imitation in the middle of a corner while I'm sitting bolt upright.   Thrown it down off road many times with just a new scrape to show for that one.  Three to four hundred mile days are about my limit even with my seatconcepts seat.   To be honest I don't think any bike would make me want to sit on it any longer than I do my sumo.    I'm only 48 now,  maybe in a few years I'll trade down for an adventure bike but not yet.

If I could have only 1 bike. My choice would be purely driven by endurance and service life of the bike. Now are we talking Motorbike, or?

Too tall for my short frame.

While not as bad as a GS (which I can't even really get on), the XR puts me on my very tiptoes on flat ground. On an uneven surface to my disadvantage (meaning lower where I need to put a foot down, usually the left side), I doubt I could keep it upright at a stop. And if I'm going to have an XR lowered, why not just buy the S1000R to begin with?

I'm more interested in the RS, which seems to have a perfect seating position for me. Haven't had a chance to actually ride one, though - dealer I was at didn't have any demos of the RS.

I bought the RS, its short, low COG. Its not an upright bike though.

BTW, the XR can be had with a low suspension option that puts the seat height lower than the RS

I got an R1M back in May, it's abolsutely worth finding one if you can swing it.

Posting pics on this iPad is a pain in the ass, so I'll try and come back later and do it from my laptop.

Probably one of the "hybrids."   It goes well enough on the road, but with semi-knobby tires it could handle city streets and a bit of off-road work as well.

On the other hand, a road bike is necessary for those 50 to 100 mile road rides.

Are they hard to come by? I was in the Ducati dealership last month looking at the Panigale and they had a couple of those Scramblers on the floor.

They've had several on the floor here - but all sold, generally long before they even hit the floor.

When I ended up ordering mine, they had three Scramblers on the floor. The two Icon models were already sold. The third was a Classic, which was still available for sale at the time. As I didn't really want to pay an extra $1500 for things I didn't really want anyway, I had them order me an Icon. That Classic was then sold within a week. (They also said they already had another two or three Scramblers on order prior to mine.)

'86 FZ600.
I don't even care that it's only 2 valves per cylinder (and DOHC).

They tend to go for about $800-$1200 around here. Every single one I've seen for sale has the description "converted into a street fighter," and is always missing the plastics.

ETA: I've also got a thing for I6 engines (own a 240z and a Cummins), so I am drawn to the Honda CBX1000 (1050?). Unfortunately, I'm not really keen on paying "new" bike prices for a 35 year old bike.

If it has to be only one then a big adventure for sure. I would be happy with any of them. Money not a object, BMW or KTM. I am looking at the big Vstroms now. Think they are the best bang for the buck in that market but there are a couple of used GS bikes that keep popping up.

All I am saying is thank goodness we don't have to settle for one bike. The only thing that limits me is my wallet or else I would have a barn full of bikes. Until then this is my meager beginning.

Absolutely love it! I'm just a few minutes from a few very popular roads though. It has gobs of torque that comes on with ferocity and it is always in the right gear. I love being able to ride fast without drawing attention to myself (note the factory pipes on the KTM). Improvements that I'd like to see: More range (it's right at 100 miles with optional power pack that I purchased with bike), faster charging, better cooling and of course a lower price.

I'd dig an electric bike. I already have an (mostly) electric car. Hopefully they'll come down in price and go up in total range. Great for running around town or commuting!

That's it, rehash your arguments because you didn't pay attention the first time around, you were too busy making it all about you and your awesome skill. Meanwhile no one in that thread listened to you (with good reason).

Look at you here, instead of talking about bikes, you managed to make it all about how people are in awe of your skill.

Dude, no one, and I mean no one likes people like you. In a riding group, the dude who won't shut about how in awe of where they got to or how many people they passed is usually the laughing stock of the group.

Not only that, your sense of humor is non-existent...so you have every possible negative character trait for social interaction.

Slicks.
