geez... glad he's ok... multiplefractures is rather harsh but your nephew never should've put down the gun... hope they catch the crazy fucker

Damn, glad your nephew is ok. I'd say this story is the epitome of learning lessons the hard way.
What you just told us OP is the modern day "Red Badge of Courage." |

It's so easy to armchair quarterback something that happened to someone else. Were mistakes made? Yes. But the child and mother are alive and well because the OP's nephew took a stand for them, so good for him. So you have no argument, just emotions? lol That kid would be better off without the biological mother and the father. Dude thought he was a badass and almost got killed for it. The rest is rationalizations. Does one need to practice daily to achieve such epic levels of douchebaggery... Or is it natural talent? That is all you have? Weak. Please entertain me with something profound. Are you a third grader? No but I'm guessing you were beat up a lot as one and are now compensating. |

Dumb, but I holstered my gun once to fight someone. Fortunately for me he didn't have a gun and if he had a knife he didn't pull it.
Still, it's a "young, dumb and full of cum" type of mistake that I'd never, ever make again. |

Damn man. Sorry for your family. Definitely a good lesson to learn but wow that's messed up.

Your nephew didn't/doesn't have the mindset to kill in self-defense. His indecision almost got him, his girlfriend and her child murdered. When it comes to that point..a lot of people can't pull the trigger. They do exactly what he did and start a moralistic wrestling match about taking a human life. They haven't made the decision that a deadly threat needs to be stopped ASAP nor arrived at the will to carry it through. A person has to decide what his priorities are - and adjust his mindset to use deadly force to defend himself and his family - before that situation presents itself. Indecision 'in the moment' will get you killed. Glad he lived through it. |

That's why you never put down your weapon in a home invasion, I don't care if it's a family member, if you kicked in my door, you're not here to say hello. I hate that him having shown mercy to the ass hole, caused him to get shot. But his guy sounds like a complete idiot. I mean come on your so upset that your ex found someone else, kick in a door to his house and end up shooting him 3 times after he showed you mercy, and then shoot at the ex who you must have been jealous of, and loved so much, while she's holding (assuming) his baby!? WTF is wrong with that guy. I hope they throw the book at the ass clown and he does the next 60 years in jail. (which would likely mean he will die there).

If he has no kids of his own, and he's shacking up with some broad with youngins, then your nephew has worse problems than just getting shot.

I don't really have anything constructive to add to this so I'll just repeat what everyone else has already said and also add some ridiculous nonsense.

I don't want to dog pile on the OP's nephew here. I genuinely hope he recovers fully and quickly. But, how recently divorced are they that she has already moved in with your nephew? Were they divorced before nephew/woman began dating? living together? Nothing really justifies trying to kill 3 people, but questionable decisions usually produce questionable results. Glad he's going to be ok. Have a talk with him about putting guns down when they should be leveled and readied for use. Also teach him the laws in your area and how to know if he's legal to fire or not. Then get him to decide his lines (decision points) of when to fire before he's in a bad spot. I'm wiling to bet hes willing to listen. He also needs to ditch the divorcee. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Moral of the story... A restraining order doesn't mean shit https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/04-278.ZS.html SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES TOWN OF CASTLE ROCK, COLORADO v. GONZALES, individually and a next best friend of her deceased minor children, GONZALES et al. CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE TENTH CIRCUIT No. 04—278.Argued March 21, 2005–Decided June 27, 2005 Respondent filed this suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 alleging that petitioner violated the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause when its police officers, acting pursuant to official policy or custom, failed to respond to her repeated reports over several hours that her estranged husband had taken their three children in violation of her restraining order against him. Ultimately, the husband murdered the children. The District Court granted the town’s motion to dismiss, but an en banc majority of the Tenth Circuit reversed, finding that respondent had alleged a cognizable procedural due process claim because a Colorado statute established the state legislature’s clear intent to require police to enforce retraining orders, and thus its intent that the order’s recipient have an entitlement to its enforcement. The court therefore ruled, among other things, that respondent had a protected property interest in the enforcement of her restraining order. Held: Respondent did not, for Due Process Clause purposes, have a property interest in police enforcement of the restraining order against her husband. Pp. 6—19. When someone mentions a restraining order have them hold it in front of their face. Then ask if they think it will stop a fist or bullet. Also don't bring hands to a gun fight. |
