#1 Don't smile around Drill Sargents. They don't understand happiness. I think it may scare them when they don't understand something, so they smoke you.

there are a few who understand happiness. Then they try to remove it from your very soul................ by smoking you.

Marine DIs understand happiness and appreciate it.  They get happiness from crushing your soul.  I think some get sexual gratification from watching you PT.

#2  even the crayon eaters learn not to smile by the 4th day.

Smoking doesn't happen in the military anymore.

Simply corrective training with PRT and a maximum of ten repetitions per exercise.

You just have to show no emotion. Whatsoever.  I remember one time during drill I made a grimace when I screwed up a step, got called out by a blue rope and did push-ups until muscle failure. From then on I had a stone face for the rest of basic. Good times....

I got caught smiling at others stupidity and had to do some push-ups on a few occasions. Do what your told and be a team player is the key to success in boot/basic.

Going to see my boy at Ft Benning on Friday for Family Day. Basic will be over, and he starts Cav Scout school the following Monday.

Can't wait

Good for him. My son is about half way through. He got a 40/40 on his rifle. They are recommending sending him to sniper school after AIT

I guess you don't understand the job of a Drill Instructor or Drill Sargeant.

They don't have to be nice to you and their job is to "smoke" him.  When he smiles he deserves everything he gets.

I smiled once while in boot camp.  It wasn't until I earned the title of United States Marine.

I understand it perfectly. What you don't understand is my son. He is having the time of his life. He has dreamed of this since he was 5.

I smiled, and laughed every day. Every Single Day.  And often paid the price.

Boot = MARINES.

Drill Sargeant = ARMY.

if your son is in boot, then it's a drill INSTRUCTOR.

if your son has drill Sargents, then he's in BASIC.

Either way, congrats to him for enlisting, and to you for raising a responsible patriotic young man.

Aye.  about a month into deployment, its "sarent" or "LT" or "cap'n"
6 months into deployment, it's "hey P (squad leaders last name started with a P)" or "Major A"
