Poll fail, pressing vote for pie is not pie.
I use it for several older applications. |

running xp on a machine that's connected to the internet is just irresponsible and stupid

Aint had no choice ever since my trusty Win95 disk got scratched.
I do run into machines all the time that are still running on XP. I find it amusing that these people swear that XP was the greatest OS ever, their machine runs like crap, and swear that every OS since has been nothing but pure shit. I never had any issues with Vista, aside from a few drivers not being available on an older machine. I like 7 just fine, and 8 and 8.1 have been pretty damned good once I figured out that a start screen is better than a start button, and a couple of the machines in the house have been running the 10 preview for a while now. The PC I use most of the time is running 7, it is an Alienware and about a year old, Alienware being more of an enthusiast oriented outfit stuck with 7 until fairly recently. I am debating upgrading to 10 on this one, 7 works fine, and I am not really doing much besides the web, light gaming and the occasional office document or spreadsheet. |

I've still got a functional XP PC, but I don't really use it.
I've got 5 PC's in the house. 1 XP, 2 on 7, 2 on 8.1. The laptop running 7 is probably going to be my Windows 10 test machine. I assume that both 7 machines and one of the 8.1's will go to 10. The other is my work computer, so it's up to them. |

Quoted: IDK, what came on a cheap 2011 era Compaq? View Quote Windows 10 might be worth the upgrade, but 7 will continue to be supported for several more years, and if it works for you, I don't see any particular reason to change. The hardware on the PC may actually run a bit faster with 8 or 10 (8 and 10 utilize hardware far more efficiently than XP, Vista or 7), but probably not enough so that you would notice. |

I installed Windows and the two programs I use on it about 6 years ago and haven't done anything to it other than load (from USB) new files to cut (can be months between use). I don't know that I ever have had it connected to the Internet since Windows was installed. |

Microsoft is still supporting it to a point. Their update servers are still allowing machines to download old updates. About 2 months back I pulled a tower that's been in the scrap pile for 8 years. It needed some help to get the .Net installed but it installed tons of MS updates, the latest Java, and Firefox.
Machines of that age could run a light Linux distro and be safer to use though. I might try Pepermint Linux next on an old PC. |

It's not like the OS goes out and actively seeks malware on its own. I have an EeePC my son uses for browsing the web and he hasn't gotten any malware on it, which surprised me. NoScript and Web Of Trust plugins are a must, along with some other ones to help "Safe Browsing". |

Yes, but I use a laptop so infrequently since I got a smart phone five years ago I don't see any sense in replacing my 2007 Acer.

My employer had hundreds of PC's on XP, we are now down to 2.
One is used to run one program that we must execute every day, the other is a backup. The program takes PCL data from one server and uses the data to print some bar code labels for US Postal Service. The company that wrote the software went out of business and the software won't run on Windows 7 machines. We save enough money on mailing with these labels that we can't skip creating them... ...and they aren't worth enough to hire a programmer to adapt the old software to Windows 7 environment. My boss is in trouble with upper level management over not having a timely replacement. |

If you ARE running XP, you need to get the fuck off of it.
Due to changes with OpenSSL and browser requirements, next year you'll pretty much be unable to use many e-commerce sites. |

My personal laptop is running 7.
I'm running XP on 11 of my 15 work PCs. The software we use was written 15 years ago. I even have a pc in my warehouse still running 98. If it ain't broke... |

Most of our customers are still running XP, so I still run it. It's a myth that Microsoft is good at backwards compatibility.z

I have XP on an older machine in our guest bedroom that rarely gets used. I'm not paying for a new OS for that 9 year old build.

I have one that isn't connected to the internet that I use strictly for playing older PC games that for whatever reason I've had trouble getting to run on Win7+ machines.

My work PC is a windows 7 64 bit with 12gigs of ram. 3.5gigs of that ram is allocated to an XP VPC which is needed to run some programs for the company. I really hate it.

I run XP on some of my Panasonic Toughbooks because some of the best GPS softwares require it. And if I install SSDs, I just slipstream the SATA drivers into the Windows install.

I have an XP virtual machine in VirtualBox that I use sometimes.

I still run it at work, as I don't have the software up-grade to my machine to let it run on Win 7.
But I am going to work toward getting that soon. |

Down to just 1 at my house. My P4 (setup for ham radio digital work) and my desktop Atom (my main machine) both got converted to openSuSE when XP went EOL. I've got a Win7 laptop (just setup with MASM32 for programming fun) that just finally got the Win10 alert, hopefully that upgrade happens soon. We went Win10 at work on release date (via ISO) and it's by far the best MS OS yet! My 1 remaining XP box is an old laptop that I run my car tuning software on, and also functions as a print server for our USB color laser. It's not going to get changed over to anything else as things would break. :-) The wife is still on Vista. It's a Core i7 that could run Win10 like a champ, but without a free upgrade, we're not doing it. With as crappy as the economy (jobwise anyways) continues to be, we're not spending a dollar more than we have to...
My Dad's still on XP too, and surfs the Internet on it. Kinda scary, but same boat. "Pockets is empty". If you don't have the money for the upgrade, well, ain't gonna happen... |

I bought an old Dell laptop for $149, it's running 98.

XP? I still have a couple machines running Windows 98SE! (Need them for specific hardware, that doesn't have drivers for anything newer.)
For general use, I held out with 98SE for as long as I could. Then I went with Windows 7, skipping ME, Vista, and XP. |

I still run xp on the internet. It's in my man cave which gets used a few hours a week. It goes through a router and haven't had any issues. What is the big deal? I just use it for bumping around the internet, down loadind music and surfing porn.

It's a shame what happened to all those XP boxes.
All functioning PCs, we couldn't even give them away to schools or the poor. Microsoft deciding no more new security patches killed them all. We threw whole pallets covered with PCs into a big industrial shredder, to destroy the hard drives. And the company went right out and bought a big pile of Windows 7 boxes.... |

I use 7 different computers on a regular basis. Of those 4 are Win7 and three still run XP.
