I'm not talking about the actual scent (I'm partial to vanilla) but rather the system of delivery. I have used the little trees, but they don't seem to last very long. I seem to remember that I used the kind that clip onto your vent, but I didn't like the smell, so I threw it out. I think I got it for free somewhere. What do you guys think lasts the longest?

I used to use scentsy (sp?) that came in a wax form in a tin. It worked well in the warmer months obviously.

For the most part, as usual, you guys make me sad, but the dryer sheets is an interesting idea. I've put them on my furnace filter before, but never thought to try them in the car. I love the smell of Gain!

My wife uses Scensty freshener that come in a plastic/foil packet. Basically liquid filled and mounts in a visor holder. Those things last forever. I use the Scent-Sack fragrance sachets that you hang somewhere in the vehicle. They last longer than the trees

I use dirt wafers in the vents but have had luck with the liquid that wicks. That thing lasted literally years (4?). But it was only when the vent was on or I was so used to it by then I couldn't smell it until then.

Can't remember what it was but I got it at TJMaxx

Yeah, I might have to try those in vanilla scent. Like I said, I've used one before, but it was some hideous perfume smell, so I chucked it.

Best ones I've ever used are the BMW clip on ones. They are very classy smelling and not too overpowering.  You can buy them at BWM dealers; below is a good write up w/pics.  I'll cut and paste some:

LINK to review with pics

The air freshener comes packaged in a nice box, hinting at the "natural" line of BMW cosmetics. Even through the packaging, you can smell the scent. What you get in the starter kit is the BMW holder for the scents, and a sample of each one of the scents. Currently, 3 are available: Green Tea, Balancing Amber and Energizing Tonic.

Construction/durability: the holder is made of plastic, in terms of quality I'd give it 5/10 on materials used and 8/10 on sturdiness. Had I seen this in someone's car, I wouldn't automatically think "that's original BMW", I would consider the idea that he bought it in Chinatown. The plastic used is no where near the quality of the plastic used in the E90 interior. However, the unit does have a sturdy feel to it, especially the slider that opens and closes the vents - this has about 5 preset positions and from one position to another you feel a distinctive "click"

One side of the holder can be opened, this is where you insert the scent. The scent is a piece of rubber impregnated with the given fragrance. Overall, the scents are "decent", they're not too strong, nor too weak. BMW sells refills of your preferred scent in a 3-pack.

Installation: This is where I hoped BMW would differ from the others, but obviously, this is not the case. The attachment to the air vent is generic, i.e. rubber feet that you slide into the vent. However, BEWARE: you cannot change the up/down position of the vent once the air freshener is inserted. Every vent only has one position that the freshener can be installed in

These are good...started using them this past winter.

However I've discovered that here in the 110 heat index days of SC, there is a higher rate of evaporation.

Essential oil soaked cotton ball, refresh weekly. They have dedicated EO holders that clip onto your vent that used your climate control to distribute if you're anal. Air Freasheners and the chemically made scents make me sick so I can't stand them so outside of keeping my car clean and the leather cleaned/conditioned I don't really use anything. My wife has some little plastic thingy that clips to the vent, put a couple of EO lamented cotton pads and that's all you need.

I do like the smell of pure Sandlewood EO from time to time but my wife sticks to Lavender, Rose or some girly blend. YMMV

Lol...it actually smells pretty good. I bought some  when I picked up a bunch of polishes and waxes. It doesn't last long at all. A few hours if that.

I used this

I cleaned the carpets, seats, wiped everything down, dont clean the windows yet.

Set this baby off for 15 minutes with the A/C full blast on recirculate.

Then open the doors for 15 minutes, re-wiped everything so it wasnt sticky.

Clean the windows and done.

Its lasted over 2 weeks and hasnt let up.

Its not so much the scent that makes it last.  Its the concentration and the delivery method.  I am partial to anything made by "GIGA".
