Not usually a fan of the idea of music lyrics reflecting life, but Within Temptation nails it pretty well as to how I feel about what I do:
Some may call it a curse, a life like mine But others, a blessing It's certainly a lonely life But a fulfilling one at best It's my cross to bear But I bear it gladly Someone has to take a stand against evil Why should it not be me? ----Within Temptation - Why Not Me Lyrics |

Pension You get to make a positive difference in someone's life occasionally. Pay is not bad if your on the right Dept. Free ammo CON Everyone lies to you. Most people hate you. Hickory shampoo is frowned upon these days. Justice system is a joke.. Same repeat offenders over and over and over for the same stupid stuff. People try to shoot at you occasionally. |

Pro:
-I only work about 150 days a year, and make over $100k. I started at 22 so at 49 I can retire and still make the same salary with health benefits working 0 days a year. -Sometimes you get to do cool, exciting stuff. -If you work smart and are good at risk management, it is not a difficult job and you usually only have to "work" for an hour or two in a 12 hour shift. Con: -Somebody someday might try to kill you just because of the way you're dressed. -A politician or your own employer might someday ruin your life to benefit themselves, even if you've never done anything wrong. -Every party you ever go to people will announce what your job is and then you have to listen to stupid fucking stories about people getting speeding tickets |

There will always be people attracted to law enforcement, for good and bad reasons. As less and less low skill jobs are available due to automation, LEO and other government jobs will become even more desirable. If the pool of applicants ever gets so low we can't find enough to fill it, they will lower the requirements, just like the military. |

Give me your top 5 misdemeanor busts to compliment your above statements, when you have a minute. I barely have a minute, but don't want to blow off your questions. Which victim-less crimes are you referring to? As to my "top 5 misdemeanor busts", I don't know what you mean by this question and honestly, I don't really keep track of them other than to make sure I write detailed reports so I can help to refresh my memory when/if they go to court. Most get plead out before they get that far though. Being that misdemeanors are rather common, they don't necessarily stay in the forefront of my mind. I've had some funny ones, but nothing that ever amazed me. My point with my post was that as much as this job can feel like it's sucking the life out of you, it helps to hang on to those few moments where you found humanity still exists. I try real hard to do so, so that I don't end up the stereotypical burnt out cop who's only hanging on until he can retire. Lastly, I like to think I'm one of the good ones, but some people may disagree. |
