I don't get the hate for the OP. Yes, he comes across as young and over-enthusiastic, maybe a little attention starved, but, honestly, many of his threads would go much better if someone else started them. Many of the responses to a " Hammermill Thread" seem childish, and are self fulfilling prophecies of a crappy Thread. I think those who are annoyed enough with Hammermill to post that he shouldn't post should simply ignore him. To crap on his threads is impolite. View Quote There is more to it than that. |

Many days this job sucks. You never get called because everyone is respecting each other or acting civil. But some days...
.....You get to settle a neighbor dispute that was about to blow up but instead each party walks away with their dignity intact and they even start looking out for one another despite their glaringly different backgrounds. ....You get to not only find the bad guy, but are able to make someone whole again by recovering what was taken from them. .....You get to buy a tank of gas for a young woman in her Waffle House uniform who is crying as she pumps the only $5 she has into her beater car with a pair of kids in the back. It's not much to you, but to her it's huge. You get to dream then that maybe, just maybe, she'll think the world isn't so fucked. At least for a little while. ....You get to literally breathe life into a child the same age as your own until the ambulance gets there to really save the day. It doesn't matter that his parents are almost certainly here illegally. You get to walk away knowing that no matter what you've been exposed to, you're still human. ....You get emails from a stepfather who had done everything he could to get his stepdaughter clean but had been unsuccessful until you caught her shooting up. It doesn't matter if anything you did actually motivated her to get better, you're just happy that a fellow father's burden is eased a little. Yeah, this job suck sometimes and I wish I had been smart enough to do something that didn't garishly display how ugly people can be. I wouldn't change it for the world though. Best job I ever had. |
