It was entirely possible for you to have grown up and fill our streets with crime and generally act as a drain on society.

How fortunate your parents didn't make the judgment call you are making now when it came time to decide what to do with your life.

There are quite a few mass murderers, rapists, thieves, etc who were wanted and loved by their parents.

Likewise there are many, many successful, happy people who contribute to society who were not loved or wanted by their parents.

You do not appear to understand how our government works.

Republicans need a veto over ride in both the HoR and the US Senate to defund the PPACA (they have voted to repeal it and defund it DOZENS of times), to alter or abolish the NSA, or any of the other things on your list.

Feel free to show us the votes in both houses.   Remember, there aren't enough Republicans to over ride a Veto without Democrat support.

To their credit, Republicans have been successful in cutting the budgets of some major players.   I.e. the IRS has had their budget reduced at least twice and they may get further reductions.

Add to this mix that not all Republicans are the good guys and I am amazed the Republicans have been able to do what they have done given what they have to work with.

Right.    You seem to be lacking in some fundamental knowledge on how our system of government works so let help you.

Repeal PPACA:    House and Senate vote to repeal the PPACA.   Obama vetos the legislation.   Congress does not have the votes to override veto.    What else can Republicans do here?

Reform or repeal NSA:  House and Senate vote to  reform or repeal the NSA (assuming you can get enough Republican votes to do so, and you can't)   Obama vetos the legislation.   Congress does not have the votes to override veto.    What else can Republicans do here?

Tie funding for the PPACA or other pet programs to NEED-TO-PASS legislation.    House and Senate put forth bills and vote to tie de-funding of the PPACA or other reforms to some need-to-pass legislation.   Obama vetos the legislation.   Congress does not have the votes to override veto.    What else can Republicans do here?

Congress plays hard ball and says to Obama:  "Go ahead and Veto, that's all we are sending to your desk."

Obama says to Congress "That's alright.  Let's shut down the government."

Six months later:   Obama goes on television with GS-7 and E-1 employees who have not been paid in 6 months who have been evicted from their homes/apartments and have lost everything.   Media paints the picutre that Evil Republicans have shut down the government and thousands upon thousands of hard working Americans are losing everything.

Welcome to another lost election.

What, exactly is your plan for Republicans in the HoR and the US Senate to do what you want them to do and what many of them truly want to do when the Democrats will not vote with them and they lack the votes to override a Veto?!

It's because they don't even have the backbone to vote the way they said they would when elected, and eat the failure in public.

THEY HAVE VOTED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!   Where have you been?!  Have you not been paying attention??

They have voted so many times the Democrats are actively mocking them for continuing to put forth legislation that is known to go nowhere.

The Republicans have voted to repeal the PPACA more times than I care to count!
The Republicans have cut the IRS's budget significantly over the last few years (so much so they are talking RIFS or furloughs next year).

The Republicans have cut the IRS's budget so much that commissioner Koskinen actually said the IRS may have to cut back on enforcement due to the budget crunches (you should LOVE this).

At an event yesterday on how IRS budget cuts affect taxpayers and the tax system, agency Commissioner John Koskinen called underfunding of the agency "the most critical challenge facing the IRS today." Commissioner Koskinen, who delivered a keynote address prior to a panel discussion hosted by the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, added that "This is not just about the agency; it’s about the entire tax system." He said that "We’re coming to a point where the significant reductions already taking place in the IRS budget are degrading the agency’s ability to deliver on its mission both during the filing season and beyond."   Commissioner Koskinen also addressed how underfunding the agency leads to lost revenue to the government; reduces services to individual taxpayers and businesses; threatens the development of the IRS workforce; and makes it difficult to modernize information technology resources. "It might sound like good news to corporations that we’re conducting fewer audits," he said, "but the ones we do are likely to be more burdensome, because we have fewer examiners with specialized training who understand complex business issues."

Not my job to come up with strategy.  It's theirs, and frankly, I'm tired of paying the whole lot for being ineffective on all fronts.

I'm a goddamned tax payer, and the pandering, lobbyist love, and down right bullshit coming from every branch of the government has pushed a good chunk of the Republican Party's faithful right into apathy.

So, go ahead, cry about fetuses.  Make it your number one issue.

Continue bitching about the gays.

All it is going to get you is a Socialist shithole because the supposed "base" of the party is only worried about what baby Jesus is going to say about them in the hereafter.

I asked you to show me how the Republicans can accomplish what you seem to think they could but refuse to do with the numbers they have.

You didn't even ATTEMPT to answer my question.

Here is what the Republicans have to work with:

US SENATE:
114th Congress (2015-2017)
Majority Party: Republican (54 seats)
Minority Party: Democrat (44 seats)
Other Parties: 2 Independents (both caucus with the Democrats)
Total Seats: 100

US  House of Representatives:
114th Congress (2015-2017)
Majority Party: Republican (247 seats)
Minority Party: Democrat (188 seats)
Other Parties: 0
Total Seats: 435

I am telling you that Republicans lack the votes to do what you think they can do.   Look at the numbers!

Do you honestly expect Obama to sign to repeal his signature legislation?!   Do you honestly expect Democrats to go along with Republicans to vote to repeal?   I live in the real world and in the real world you have to manage expectations with what you have.

Nonsense!  It is your job to be educated and to be current with what our Government is doing and yet you cannot articulate to me how the Republicans can meet your unrealistic goals!

This isn't a go the polls once every 4 years and then sit back watching shark week kind of a deal all the while complain because the Republicans cannot do what you unrealistically think they can do!

Little wonder we are in the mess we are in!

Quoted:So, go ahead, cry about fetuses.  Make it your number one issue.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of property ARE MY ONLY ISSUES.    I have no other.   I wish you and everyone else who claimed to love freedom were the same.

This is why I actually take the time to understand how our government was set up, how it functions, and what I can realistically expect from the people in power.
This is why I get upset when I see people who know next to NOTHING when it comes to our government and how it functions throw up their hands and claim "I'm done" or "I'm never voting again" because their unrealistic, impossible expectations have yet to be fulfilled.

There are no "gays."

There are only human beings and I welcome them and everyone else so long as they value freedom.

I would like to point out that Obama himself dodged the abortion question famously saying "That's above my pay grade"  and supported the traditional definition of marriage (one man, one woman) in 2008 and that did not appear to hurt his campaign in the slightest.

I really wish you would take the time to educate yourself on this matter.

Here's another scenario.  It took several embryos to create the wonderful six year old daughter I have sitting next to me now thru IVF.  The remaining ones were frozen for years before we decided on what we should do with them.  Since they were frozen, are the "persons"?  They could theoretically be kept frozen indefinitely.

and if you decide to destroy those embryos (after you decide you don't want any more children) a lot of arfcom will think you're a murderer.

Welcome to GD.

A fertilized egg frozen (called a morula, typically frozen 4 days after fertilization occurs) is not the same as a gestating fetus, growing and forming into a human, living in a women's womb. Not even close. Morula or Blastocyst =/=fetus (which for a human doesn't even classify until 8 weeks after conception).

Crack a biology textbook open or read this.

I've explained the differences in the stages of development quite a few times on arfcom, many times before you ever joined us 13er.

Some people still see the morning after pill as murder, by your standards (and mine btw) it would not be.

The line when you start to give a shit about the nascent human being's rights is arbitrary.

fertilization

quickening

blastocyst

fetus

first breath

brain activity

heartbeat

viability

are just some of the various positions I've heard as to when that nascent human being should have a right to life.

everyone seems to have a different opinion from a moral standpoint.

Legally, its pretty simple.   Until he/she is born,  the mother has a right to terminate the pregnancy.

I don't agree with abortion, but I'm also against the government interfering in a medical decision that should be between a woman, the prospective father, her doctor, and possibly her priest.

We've had this discussion on arfcom ad nauseum.   Whenever it pops up again, there is always some newbie who thinks he has a new perspective no one else has ever thought of and that everyone else isn't as educated on the subject as he is.  Congratulations 13er, this time you're that guy.   Congrats.

Why don't you go look this up and double check before you try calling other people stupid or 13er?

"Legally, its pretty simple.   Until he/she is born,  the mother has a right to terminate the pregnancy."

You are a 13er and I never said you were stupid, in fact I implied you were too smart for your own good.  Your reply proves my point.

All it takes for a woman to get an abortion past 24 weeks date is to find a therapist willing to say it is for her mental health.  All of the laws about late term abortions have that loophole.   I know a girl who had an abortion performed in  the 39th week of her pregnancy because being pregnant was making her suicidal.  She still has nightmares about it.  It is a rarity, but late term abortions for "medical reasons" happen every year.

The main effect of those late term abortion laws is to set a clock and women are often pressured to make use of their choice before it is taken from them.  We've just shifted the abortions from the more objectionable time frame to a less objectionable one, and for a lot of right to lifers, that is immaterial.  They view it as killing a baby from fertilization on.

As I said before, we've had these discussions on arfcom for years.  You aren't presenting any new info to the discussion and the manner in which you present it is likely to get you a negative reaction.  Being a 13er just makes it worse, since you're living up the the stereotype.

you have a good day though

The ban on partial birth abortion is also circumvented by killing the baby with chemical injections via syringe instead of crushing its skull while a piece of the child is still in the vaginal canal.

Liberals are gross.

lol, you compared killing your kid with being able to put your dog to sleep versus clipping the ears off  someone else's dog. Talk about irrational and upset, I'm laughing. I just find it funny and extremely hypocritical that you care more about a 10 year old's clitoris but don't give a fuck about that kid when she's in some lady's belly.

I have a right to put down my dog, I don't have a right to so much as cut the ears off yours.

Women can kill her child in utero and its cool, but if she waits 10 years and only chop her clit off then its a "fucking atrocity." Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.

BTW, your analogy is stupid. You might be able to put your dog down, because no one gives a shit. But try that with your kid, people might have some issues.

It makes sense because a fetus is not a child.

Who's talking about my trying it with my kid?

I'm sorry if this shit makes you all irrational and upset. And if you just want to have your opinion and promote it, that's fine. I don't have an issue with you being anti-abortion. I certainly wouldn't have one. The only issue I have is if you try to take the right away from women. It's simply not the government's place to interfere in that.

Protip: This is a thread involving an animal. This is beekeeper. If you dont bath in animal blood daily, you're a dirty PETA troll. His reaction was pretty much expected.

Sigh sometimes hyperbole doesn't work on the internet because it your hyperbole is too close to being true for some that it isn't even hyperbole anymore. Let me give you an example.  I believe that all children in the womb and after being born who are not 100% perfect should be disposed of!  The unfit and disabled are a drag on society! We must create our perfect Spartan utopia with which we will fight millions of years of evolution in a battle where only the most fit survive. Man vs. Lion. That's hyperbole because there is something that is obviously over the top ( man vs lion) now what you wrote is essentially the same but you left out the over the top part about lion fights. So you gave a completely realist example of some people line of thinking. Get rid of the burden on society. That's a summarization of what you wrote Now I will give you that you did include the part about thousands of deaths are worth an endangered species but again not too far off for an animal rights extremest.

As a side note even my crappy example of hyperbole doesn't stand without the man vs lion part. Ever been to China? A land where children are thrown in dumpsters because they are girls, or imperfect. It happens every day there, its a genocide but the victims are unable to defend themselves or even plea for help.
