The dentist is toast. The artical I read on this on Yahoo had the name and address of his practice.

"American dentist who paid $55,000 to kill Africa's most famous lion~"If that line about the lion being at all famous is true, this guy made an incredibly stupid move or is getting exactly what he wanted. Do not kill animals with names would be a pretty good and very basic rule to follow. esp if they are at all known or liked by a large group of people or could be liked by a larger group of people posthumously. |

Maybe i'm just a hick.. but I always felt that hunting for anything other than food was retarded. Who gives a fuck if you can hit a lion from 300 yards with your rifle.. Just a waste.

If the story is true....and that is a big IF because I have a hard time believing any story that originates in Africa, then he should face the penalties. If that leads to him getting cavities filled in some Zimbabwe prison, oh well. That is, if the doc was knowingly involved in the shady activity of luring it off of the preserve. If the guides did it for a bigger paycheck, then punish them.
People who are against trophy hunting, or hunting anything for any purpose other than to eat it, are naive and ignorant as the day is long. Predators and nuisance animals should be exterminated when necessary with extreme prejudice. End of story. Trophy hunts and guided hunts bring in some of the largest sums of money for wildlife conservation. I don't know how to break it to you, but your $16 fishing license and $2 WWF sticker aren't paying to have elk reintroduced around the country or streams and lakes stocked regularly. The same is true for guided safaris in Africa. Hunters are on waiting lists for years and pay a small fortune for a tag and permit to hunt exotic animals. The money they spend goes towards preservation of the land and wildlife so that they can continue to sell tags and permits. |

I agree the details of this whole thing sound a bit messed up but who knows . What little I hunt and fish is for the table but 1) I have no problem with trophy hunting in general if rules and regulations are followed. 2) much of the wildlife preservation in this country is bankrolled directly through fees and taxes on sportsmen 3) Generally all preservation in Africa and a great deal of general tourism dollars are generated by foreign sportsmen Agreed and thank you for posting a sane reply in this thread. For the really anti's all hunting is murder crowd, you really don't want to know about me and hunting coyotes. You apologists need to learn a book. Lets review: "I get off shooting things and not following permit procedures" - verified by past run ins "I googled 'shoot a lion' and this Nigerian prince said '$55,000 American moneys" "Lol i did 5 minutes of research on the hunt and 20 hours on visas and airplane tickets" "lol I shot a lion right where the nigerian princes told me it'd be! Then I had to shoot it, with a gun because my woowoo Injun bow skills sucked!" "Then I skinned it and wagged my penis around, cuz lol, I'm a hunter that killed a lion! Just like in the comic books!" "What do you mean those nigerian princes were phonies? Oh shit, time to be a man and run away!" Yeah, I bet this guy did jack all of shit research into his "Big bad african game hunt". Local gun shop owner does legitimate game hunts and shooting anything other than what is approved, after doing a few minutes of research is strictly a no-no. |

Never had squirrel, though I hear it tastes pretty good. Rabbits are generally pretty good. I like them anyways. Only ever tried wild pig once. It was good, but it was tiny. Whole pig fit in the oven with lots of room left over. I have no intention of trying any of the other stuff on your list. |
