It s a shitty thing to do and he should be fined or get a week in jail if he can't pay the fine but a year is excessive although i tend to think that it is people like that who turn into murderers.

He also plead guilty to strangling someone, I'm sure that added to his time.

So now the taxpayers have another person to take care of for a year?
Over some ducks? Give the guy a fine or better yet just a harsh talking too... Our criminal justice system is nothing but a giant bank passing money around and using people to justify the transfers of funds. These petty crimes are financially lucrative so I guess we will keep putting people in jail.

I was in San Marcos, TX. a while back and traffic both ways had to stop while a mother duck and her brood waddled across the street single file. One of the more humane moments in life. |

In Texas, about half the Muscovy's are actually migratory from Central Mexico. So they qualify for protection under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The lawnmower guy should have been punished under that Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It would be a teachable moment for many boneheads who don't understand that when you kill/shoot birds that many of them, even the smallest, have heavy protection under federal law. Those same laws apply to people in Central America and South America, just like they apply to some neckbeard on a riding mower. |
