Now that all the N.Y.C. deep fry chefs will make $600.00 a week, perhaps the city won't need to be the biggest landlord in the five boroughs. They can sell all the projects and fire the housing department. No one will need a government house. They'll all be rich.

The lawsuits over this should be hilarious. The article repeatedly refers to "fast food workers." It doesn't mention pizzerias, diners, etc. I wonder how Tavern On The Green will fare with its new bus boy payroll.

I don't see McDonald's, Burger King, et al sitting around and smiling while they get their head pounded against the wall and the rest of the food business gets to point and laugh.

Said for years this will force automation in the fast food industry.    They will have far less people now.   Wonder how the McDonald's franchisees will like putting in the new touch screens to take the orders and the new automated kitchens.

Not only that, but the current generation of window lickers will be replaced by retirees who can get to work on time & follow basic instructions.
This is going to be an epic fail.

The real shame is that it will continue to deteriorate the entry level job market.

Kids coming around to mow lawns? Sorry, we have illegals doing that now.
Kids getting fast food jobs? Sorry, those have all been replaced by machines.

No wonder all they do is sit around and play PS4 anymore.

Yep and the retirees will be selling $10.00 Happy Meals to the window-licker's crotch fruit. There's some justice in that.

Already businesses are looking for the aged to work for them. If they can get a dependable person in their 60s (even if they only work for them a few years) they are much farther ahead of the game than constantly hiring some inked-up flat-bill or single mother with three kids and a EBT card that shows-up when they feel like it.

That will effectively drive marginally profitable franchises like Quiznos out of business. They are already like a 65 hour a week job for the owners. I imagine places like Firehouse, Subway, Five Guys are much the same. The 'boutique' fast food places, if you will.

Meh, by 2021 inflation will have eroded their purchasing power and they'll be right back on the whine wagon.

NYC is losing native residents due to the cost of living. The burger flippers will be busing in to serve Big Macs to Russian oligarchs and mid east Sheiks.

They eat at McCafes, more like Starbucks.

I've seen pics of some in European big cities. You'd never know it was a MCD.

Here's one in the Philippines

While their US sales are falling Europeans are more accepting of the McCafe concept.

I worked in San Francisco back in 2001, and I actually remember fast food places offering $10/hr to start. I always figured it was because they couldn't find anybody willing to do it for less.

I forget what minimum wage was back then, but I know it was nowhere near $10/hr.

That and it will create a whole new class of "untouchables".

That Masters won't mean squat when no one will hire you with zero previous work experience, doing something, anything........

Employers need to know you are capable of doing a job 9-5 and show up 5 out of 5 days a week.

NO work experience, straight out of college?

so…. a guy that works a non fast-food sit down establishment is ok to make minimum wage, but a guy that operates the french fry machine will make $15?

Waiting to see how this will work out, because once the genie is out of the bottle they aren't going to be able to put it back in and reduce this even if every burger king, mcdonalds, Wendys, taco bell, etc shuts down….which, by the way, I think would be funny as heck.

If I were you I'd take that pay raise schedule into your boss and demand same dollar amount the moron is getting as a raise, or ask for less hours so you can collect government assistence.

Or the state is going to raise the amount of money you can earn and still get government assistence.

No matter how it shakes out, we're in for a bumpy ride.

Prince Andy obviously has no concept of where the money comes from to pay employees - hint :  it isn't the bottomless wallet called "taxpayers."

Businesses can either raise prices (and lose customers) or cut employees until they have enough $ to cover what's left.

In this case, say adios to humans taking orders, and perhaps to humans flipping/assembling burgers.  It'll be more cost-effective to automate.

All he's done is screw entry level people out of jobs.
