Now that all the N.Y.C. deep fry chefs will make $600.00 a week, perhaps the city won't need to be the biggest landlord in the five boroughs. They can sell all the projects and fire the housing department. No one will need a government house. They'll all be rich.
The lawsuits over this should be hilarious. The article repeatedly refers to "fast food workers." It doesn't mention pizzerias, diners, etc. I wonder how Tavern On The Green will fare with its new bus boy payroll. I don't see McDonald's, Burger King, et al sitting around and smiling while they get their head pounded against the wall and the rest of the food business gets to point and laugh. |

Said for years this will force automation in the fast food industry. They will have far less people now. Wonder how the McDonald's franchisees will like putting in the new touch screens to take the orders and the new automated kitchens.

The real shame is that it will continue to deteriorate the entry level job market. Kids coming around to mow lawns? Sorry, we have illegals doing that now. Kids getting fast food jobs? Sorry, those have all been replaced by machines. No wonder all they do is sit around and play PS4 anymore. |

I already resolved not to patronize that city in any fashion, after Bloomberg directed NYPD to arrest cops for carrying under the nationwide concealed carry deal. Cops arresting other cops for carrying a gun? Seriously, guy?

Yep and the retirees will be selling $10.00 Happy Meals to the window-licker's crotch fruit. There's some justice in that. Already businesses are looking for the aged to work for them. If they can get a dependable person in their 60s (even if they only work for them a few years) they are much farther ahead of the game than constantly hiring some inked-up flat-bill or single mother with three kids and a EBT card that shows-up when they feel like it. |

That will effectively drive marginally profitable franchises like Quiznos out of business. They are already like a 65 hour a week job for the owners. I imagine places like Firehouse, Subway, Five Guys are much the same. The 'boutique' fast food places, if you will.

So the phase in schedule gives the industry just enough time to fully phase in and perfect automation.

I worked in San Francisco back in 2001, and I actually remember fast food places offering $10/hr to start. I always figured it was because they couldn't find anybody willing to do it for less.
I forget what minimum wage was back then, but I know it was nowhere near $10/hr. |

so…. a guy that works a non fast-food sit down establishment is ok to make minimum wage, but a guy that operates the french fry machine will make $15? Another interesting problem that these morons didnt think about. When you make the job worth that much money, you can get rid of the mouth breathing dink cooking your fries and hire someone with a much higher skill set. Prince Andy obviously has no concept of where the money comes from to pay employees - hint : it isn't the bottomless wallet called "taxpayers." Businesses can either raise prices (and lose customers) or cut employees until they have enough $ to cover what's left. In this case, say adios to humans taking orders, and perhaps to humans flipping/assembling burgers. It'll be more cost-effective to automate. All he's done is screw entry level people out of jobs. View Quote If I have to pay $10 for a burger I will be glad I can type my order into a kiosk so that at least the person taking my order can't fuck it.
