Now that all the N.Y.C. deep fry chefs will make $600.00 a week, perhaps the city won't need to be the biggest landlord in the five boroughs. They can sell all the projects and fire the housing department. No one will need a government house. They'll all be rich.
The lawsuits over this should be hilarious. The article repeatedly refers to "fast food workers." It doesn't mention pizzerias, diners, etc. I wonder how Tavern On The Green will fare with its new bus boy payroll. I don't see McDonald's, Burger King, et al sitting around and smiling while they get their head pounded against the wall and the rest of the food business gets to point and laugh. |

The real shame is that it will continue to deteriorate the entry level job market. Kids coming around to mow lawns? Sorry, we have illegals doing that now. Kids getting fast food jobs? Sorry, those have all been replaced by machines. No wonder all they do is sit around and play PS4 anymore. |

Already businesses are looking for the aged to work for them. If they can get a dependable person in their 60s (even if they only work for them a few years) they are much farther ahead of the game than constantly hiring some inked-up flat-bill or single mother with three kids and a EBT card that shows-up when they feel like it. |

That will effectively drive marginally profitable franchises like Quiznos out of business. They are already like a 65 hour a week job for the owners. I imagine places like Firehouse, Subway, Five Guys are much the same. The 'boutique' fast food places, if you will.

Meh, by 2021 inflation will have eroded their purchasing power and they'll be right back on the whine wagon.
NYC is losing native residents due to the cost of living. The burger flippers will be busing in to serve Big Macs to Russian oligarchs and mid east Sheiks. Quoted:

I worked in San Francisco back in 2001, and I actually remember fast food places offering $10/hr to start. I always figured it was because they couldn't find anybody willing to do it for less.
I forget what minimum wage was back then, but I know it was nowhere near $10/hr. |
