Haven't seen any photo threads lately and I know there are a handful of guys on here with some pretty sweet collections, both hot and not hot species.

I need motivation to get back in to the game.  Sold my collection off about 6 years ago and just finished digging out all my supplies to maybe start up again.  So fellow snake guys, post some photos!

ETA:  Found a neat youtube channel owned by a hots collector.  I dislike some of the methods he uses, but his videos have been fun to watch.  https://www.youtube.com/user/viperkeeper/

My cornsnake Lannister. Pic is about a year old, he's almost 3 feet long now. I need to get some new pics taken.

I had a ghost corn some years ago.  Beautiful snake, but when it died so did my desire to own any more color morphs.  Not a fan of the problems that type of breeding causes.

Little snakes with fangs and venom creep me the fuck out.

Little shits.

Big constrictors don't.

Here's my buddy's girl:

I've owned far too many retics and burms, but I could never get over that lack of trust I have for bigger species.  For the most part mine were at or below the 2-man rule, but I still didn't trust the bastards.  Never did get tagged by any of those.  Worst bite was from an adult female red tail that was a retired breeder and was never handled.  Got me on the elbow and tore me up pretty bad.

I'm trying to dig up some of my old photos but can't seem to find them.  They're probably on a forgotten photobucket account.

This is my first snake, I thought the color was just a basic pattern. Is it actually a morph of some type?

Doesn't bother me either way, I just think he's a fun little fucker.

I don't think yours is a color morph, but I have no idea what type of corn snake it is.  I can spot most of the morphs and the popular red rats.

ETA:  I have a corn/rate snake book lying around here somewhere.  I'll see if I can dig that up and take a look at it.

I was told it was an anery corn, which is a pretty basic pattern.

The guy had some morphs that he was selling for a lot more than my little guy.

Yeah yours is an Anerythristic corn snake and they can be found in the wild.  It lacks red pigment.

Hats off to you. Venomous snakes are cool, but I'd never want to keep one. I do like the snake exhibit at our state fair, lots of hots up close, safely behind glass. It's always fun to smuggle in a rubber snake, and randomly toss it in the crowd.

Have you ever been bit by one? I worked with a guy back in Kansas who used to work with a guy that had lots of venomous snakes. He got tagged once, and the area on his forearm the venom spread to looked like a 3rd degree burn.

I've only owned two hots.  They were a west african gaboon viper and a northern pacific rattlesnake, owned at the same time.  I was young and stupid and thought it would be cool to own hots, with absolutely no experience or mentoring with them.  I didn't own them long before the reality set in on what the series of events would probably look like if I were to get tagged by either, especially the gaboon, so I traded them off to an associate for a handful of neat non-venomous to add to my collection.

I would actually like to get in to collecting them one day but with no one around here to really mentor me, and now living in a city that doesn't allow them, I don't think it'll happen in this lifetime. I'd be happy just owning an eyelash viper or two.

Fortunately, I have never been bitten. I always use tools to handle hots, both at home or in the field. I also know several people who have been bitten, one died from the envenomation, and the others were left with life-long injuries from developing compartment syndrome etc....from their bites. The sad part is, most of them worked as professionals in the field of herpetology and became too complacent while handling hots. They made serious mistakes as a result.

So very similar to being around firearms all the time.

You get so used to handling dangerous things that can kill you, but complacency is dangerous. Makes sense.

What are your opinions on designer snake breeding?  Or any type of designer breeding in the reptile field?  Shit like spider/cinnamon/whatever ball pythons, scaleless snakes, silkback beardies, etc?

ETA:  Reason I ask is because I just got done arguing with someone who appears to be a popular designer ball python breeder/seller.  I called him out for telling people there were no downsides or adverse effects from that type of breeding(which anyone truly in the field knows is bullshit) and he first tried denying what I was saying, then pulled the "I'm an industry leader" card out, then acknowledged the known issues and said he makes sure not to reintroduce those defects.  He didn't actually admit to the known issues until I pointed out several that are known to come with specific ball morphs.  He then took his ball and went home because "there is a wealth of information on this topic and your posts are full of inaccuracies, message me in private if you want to discuss more."

Shit like designer breeding in snakes, scaless breeding in snakes, silkback breeding in beardies, etc...really fuckin' grinds my gears.  What pisses me off even more is when they use the usual "the CB babies I sell are healthy and feeding, so that's proof!" while not mentioning how many they killed off due to issues and completely ignoring how many of the specimens sold eventually die or get put down as a result of their defects and disorders.  Once money exchanges hands it's as if the data doesn't count from that point forward.

He's been in the game longer than I've been alive so I won't tell him how to do his job, but he does have that false sense of security/trust around several of his species and that's the shit that will get you tagged.  Letting them roam around, leaving the enclosures open while he's looking at or doing other stuff, free handling them, all this is stuff is extremely dangerous.  It just takes one time for a snake to take advantage of an opportunity like that.  What's worse is when they're free roaming with his wife in the room, and I'll go ahead and assume she has absolutely no experience dealing with hots outside of being his assistant and handing him tongs.

That King Cobra, Elvis I think his name is, is pretty funny.  He is one moody bastard.  I think the Samars are a bit more entertaining to watch, though.

Thanks.  Yeah the first speck was found almost below sea level.  Very rocky in an area prone to flooding.  Second one (as you can tell by coloring) completely different habitat.  About 4,000' elevation and more scrub/creosote desert with some rocks.

This is the only pic I have available right now...found this one out riding the RZR two summers ago.  I have always loved snakes but I won't keep "hot" snakes...no way, not me!  I'm not a collector, I have owned a Boa and various other non-venomous snakes as "pets" back in my younger days but don't have any now.  I catch rattlers regularly to relocate them out of town or off the road but I will not "bare hand" them or keep them.  I know a couple of people who have been bitten and it is most certainly not something I want to experience.
