I think we found something better than cat shit for the annual FSA christmas present surprise.

Haven't seen any of those, but I've seen alot of scorpions around lately.

I grew up near the hill country area and used to catch them in jars. I remember the ones I caught as more purplish though- been a long time and the memory isn't what it used to be. They're actually pretty beneficial - they take out a ton of bugs and spiders and even lizards and such. Never got tagged by one but my brother did - seemed super painful
It's been probably 20 years since I've seen one- figured the fire ants had taken them out like just about everything else that lives on or near the ground. |

The wife found a tarantula molt in the garage the other day.
I won't be telling her about these things... |

I'm Cajun so I have to ask, what's it taste like?
I'm thinking a nice sauce piquante. |

Deep fry for extra crispy-ness, because you'll never get this bitch peeled and deveined. The animal itself is kinda cool; a fast, agile hunter over any terrain. They gots some scary-looking grabber/fangs, though. https://beetlesinthebush.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/img_3268_enh_1200x800_usm.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Scolopendra sp.
Nasty! Some of the larger species (up to a foot, or so long) are reputed to be lethal to humans. |
I've stood my ground against dangerous humans and feral hogs but two creatures I am repulsively irked by are water moccasins and those things.
This is why we weak and fragile humans have been endowed with the SHOTGUN....all hail the SHOTGUN!!!

The centipede was under a log, in Texas, until the guy I was with cut off its head with his knife. The moccasin was in Florida, and came out of a canal to attack me. It had a really shitty disposition. |

This is a news story? I see ones that big a few times a year. One time I found one under my refrigerator. I spray inside now.

At least that can be seen from a distance. It could be worse. http://www.premierpest.com/images/Bark_Scorpion_with_Babies.JPG View Quote Yo... I heard you like scorpions with your scorpions. |
A bark scorpion sting is minor. I got stung last month and my finger throbbed for about half an hour. I didn't kill it. Not even mad bro.
Yeah but scorpion stings are accumulative. I've been stung numerous times and each times the symptoms are more noticeable, specifically, numbness of the lips, feeling drugged the next day and heart palpitations.
We had one in our house once. It streaked across the den towards the kitchen. Shortly after followed my mom's screams and shrieks.
Nothing like a centipede that has poison injecting limbs and teeth.
Enjoy. |

I'm going to second that. I've been here my whole life and never seen one of those and I spent my entire young life running the woods here. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I think I am reconsidering my plan to retire to TX. I'm going to second that. I've been here my whole life and never seen one of those and I spent my entire young life running the woods here. It's a desert centipede, usually found under rocks and such. |

I came into this thread for pics of bbq, maybe a chicken fried steak.
I'm not normally too glad that I live in Ohio, but now... |

Scolopendra heros is purported to make tiny incisions with its legs while walking across human skin. When the animal is irritated, a poison is supposedly produced near the base of each leg and dropped into the wounds causing inflammation and irritation. According to one story cited by Dr. Baerg, an officer in the Confederate Army, while sleeping in his tent, was suddenly aroused by the creepy feeling of a large centipede crawling on his chest. A number of spots of deep red, forming a broad streak, indicated the arthropod’s passage across the man’s chest and abdomen. Violent pain and convulsions soon set in, accompanied by excessive swelling in the bitten area. The victim fought with death for two days and then succumbed. The agony suffered by the bitten officer was described by an eyewitness as the most frightful he had ever observed. The famed arthtopod scientist J. L. Cloudsley-Thompson once explained that “centipedes seem to exert a weird fascination on the morbid appetites of the hysterical and insane.”
Fuck that |

I remember that my dad got bit by one that got in bed. It got infected and he told me it hurt pretty bad. My dad thought a yellew jacket sting was an inconvenience and ate fresh jalapenos at dinner with his meals like they were celery.
I see one or two a year around the house and kill every one I see. |

Of all the asshole bugs in Texas that one is the most asshole....
They are also very fast and related to honey badgers.... They DGAF.. |
Has OP been usurped and now this thread is about Texas red heads?
Yet another reason to stay the fuck out of TX.
But I sure do like some of their ideas. |
