Hola. Accomplished much today. Took & passed the Texas Concealed Handgun License class for the 3rd time, and this time I might actually get 'round to sending my paperwork in. Because of the last project I got busy on today.
Next I visited Home Depot and bought some 1&1/2" 1/4" 20 pitch bolts. Two stainless hexheads, two thumbscrews, and two brass screws. And the accompanying nuts. Then I took my $20 Sabre Defense/Cav Arms lower from Trinity Ordnance, and screwed my upper on to it. It fits, and it looks cute w/ brass screws & nuts. One problem - @ a minimum, the stainless bolt threaded my aluminum upper's rear takedown pin boss - perhaps b/c I have a tight-fitting old Olympic A2 upper? Brass is probably better for experimenting, the stainless steel hexhead bolt fits better and is probably the ticket if you want to dedicate a cheap upper to a very cheap lower. The front take down bolt seems to nicely seal the crack in the front of the magwell. So: $332 AR? http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/barreled-upper-assemblies/ptac-16-mid-length-5-56mm-1-7-upper-with-bcg-and-charging-handle.html http://fatboytactical.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_48&products_id=28660 ie - Anderson LPKs can be found as low as $40/ea. $20 lower, + 2 screws & 2 nuts from Home Depot... THEN... I got out the GF's Dremel, and went to town on some Legos... And I made a working 1911 grip. |

Quoted: I just invested in a mill instead of the casting route View Quote That's a good investment personally. 3-D printing is another way forward. Casting would appear to trump Legos, milling, welding, drill-presses & jigs, routers & jigs, and 3-D printing for cost and simplicity. For the shooter who's decent w/ power tools, the router/jig method would seem pretty low investment/rather quick. Mill certainly gives you the most flexibility. Welding is probably the 2nd least expensive, and certainly makes the strongest lowers, albeit the heaviest. Before EP Armory displayed their ignorance of the law, I had one of their zombie green blems that I hoped to do via Dremel. I've tried to do one of the steel flats w/ super glue, but that didn't work. ETA: Have a good night. I gotta call it - working tomorrow. |

You couldnt help yourself and used PowerPoint, Didn't you? Nope. 1911, to single action .22"LR, to Taurus .357", to SIG 250, to Glock, to Springfield XD, to Tristar knockoff of the CZ 75, to Beretta 92, to SIG P226. They were enlightened, but didn't buy anything. |
