Just to get this BTT, A friend of mine won one in a raffle, .243, and it is an absolutely beautiful rifle! The fit and finish......oh, man, it's just gorgeous! (it makes me wonder why the mini-14 is such crap)

Ruger supported the hi-cap mag ban and other gun control. Never another dollar from me, new or used.

Ruger has since changed his mind.He recently gave 1,000,000 to the NRA.He also voiced hs regretts about the mag cap.
#1's can be made to shoot as good as a bolt rifle.A little tuning to the forend hanger does wonders.Some of them shoot great out of the box though.I have a 22-250 that shoots 1/4 to1/2 on average with three diffrent hand loads.This is with the tunning and set trigger.my only gripe is why dont they make the barrels 26"-28" long in the long range cal.I think the rifle would look better besides the increase in velocity. |

I have a #1 in 30-06 that I bought used from a friend that is now to old to hunt. I am not sure how old the rifle is. I am not sure he knows now. I know that it is at least 15 and maybe over 20 years old.
This rifle is an absolute tac drvier. I have shot groups as small as 1/2 inch with 165 Nosler ballistic tips using IMR 4350. I love the rifle. Rusty |

I have a friend who used to own a #1 in .416 Rem and now owns one in .270. An excellent rifle that shoots as good as it looks. I'm with Armalite Fan in that I wish they would make it an option for a 26"-28" barrel. Should make a great deer rifle for ya.

I like M77s and 10/22s have never shot a ruger revolver but they look cool! but those p series pistols..those are the most butt-ass ugly things I've ever seen

They also came out with a laminated(grey/black)-stainless model ths year. Very good looking! No .270 though, but it is available in .25-06(necked-down .270), .22-250, 7mm mag, 7mmSTW, and .300 mag.

Got it, Thanks. And thank everyone else. I just fondled one again tody and I'm going to get it. Now all I have to decide on is calibre. I have to check if they make it in .280 remington. I've heard good things about this round and I think I want one...

Next spring project is a No. 1 International chambered either .260 Rem or .243 built light and short for Texas whitetails. Ask to select for good wood to metal fit.

My 2 Internationals have an overall length of 36.5" and weigh around 7 lbs. I remove the scope ribs and install Williams receiver sights. I have spoken with LT & D Custom Gun(add in Shotgun News) of Ohio about various chamberings and brakes. Prices are really good for premium barrel choices. Both the .243 & .260 are excellant in these light-weight rifles which really 'pound' in the '06 chamberings. My normal hunting chambering is 7X57 Mauser. Even that gets me flinching after the first 10 rounds, but my .243 is very comfortable during the entire range session. |

Kevin, Thanks for the head's-up about LT & D Custom Gun. I'll check them out. Don't know about a brake tho'. Last summer I built a Remington Model 7 Youth chambered .260 Rem for my 9 year-old son and 8 year-old daughter and they handle the light recoil OK. As you said a 6 1/2 to 7 pound rifle is what I want.
BTW, right now I'm finishing a .458 Lott custom that will weigh around 10 pounds and I know she's gonna be a handful. |
