As the kid who used to be the one who was moving the ouija board thing and making it spell out "try oral sex with the guy sitting across from you" I find this quite hilarious.

I hate when kids open up doors to the netherworld. Every time it happens, you have demons running up and down the street, giggling and spreading evil all over the place. You can chase them off your porch with a Nimbus 2000 but they just come back later and leave flaming sacks of dog crap at your front door.
Now that we have Twitter and Facetube, which clearly augment demon summoning abilities, this can only get worse. Or people are fucking stupid. It could go either way. |

Yes it is exploiting mental illness and naivety. Set one pencil on top of another in any configuration and you create an inherently unstable platform, where the top pencil will slide off from the slightest vibration or breath. Making children believe in demons, and try to contact them is just opening up a can of worms, which is in itself truly evil. Some will become obsessed with the occult and waste their youths being unproductive, and hindering their maturity.

I suspect that demon possession is just the old time explanation for mental illness and other conditions. Makes a lot of sense after reading a couple stories on schizophrenia - a guy acts perfectly healthy and normal through childhood into his early 20s, then flips out completely with no obvious trigger. In a society far more religious and far less informed on scientific workings, it's not surprising you'd ascribe that to demonic work. I seem to recall a New Testament case where a 'demon possessed' kid sounded just like someone with epilepsy.

But in my opinion that would mean they aren't angels or demons in the sense that people are referring to them in here. For example, say the monster cthullu (sp? fuck it) turns out to be real. Real in the sense that there's a giant squid like creature capable of destroying large ships, but isn't the master of evil or darkness or whatever supernatural type powers are attributed to him. That would mean that cthullu is real, but is not supernatural. Because anything that occurs naturally, is by definition not supernatural. |
