Girlfriend just called me, and said her car has been completely flooded. She lives in the Memorial area of Houston and she had been monitoring the water level. Hadn't checked in a while and a flash flood got her car.

Houston is in really bad shape right now. The storms are stalling out right over the city.

Texas Storm Chasers last update was 4-6" in the last 90 minutes, but Houston is getting all kinds of wet right now.

When I was thinking about getting a hotel in College Station and waiting this out she wanted me to come back to her house. I'm glad I didn't.

Damn, and it only takes, what? An inch of rain to flood Houston?

This thing is historic. They're saying the flooding from Shoal creek is worse than the '81 Memorial Day flood. Not to mention what's happened on the Blanco and San Marcos rivers.

A friend of mine told me last week that he heard a report that this El Nino is one of the strongest ever observed and that the projections are for a very wet fall.

We need it but can sure do without the death and destruction.

we got so fucked with this storm.  just finished going through our area.  Took a couple hours and dumped 4-5 inches.  Porch/ patio had about a half inch of water flowing across it, fortunately nothing came in.  We've had two to three months of constant rain and the ground around here has standing water from what seems like March.  Been in this location for 6 years and never have I had this much water on the portch (live on a bit of an incline).  Houston is fucked right about now and I a friend said that Lake Travis in Austin has risen over 20-25 feet in the past 14 days including 10 feet in just the past 2 days.  It's still 30 feet low, but I don't expect that'll be the case by tomorrow afternoon.

It's nuts out here - our average rainfall is around 40 inches and we're at least at 30 so far, maybe even more.

I wish I had gotten some good pictures when I was in the middle of that big storm in Stephenville a few weeks back. Baseball sized hail, funnel clouds like crazy, a bunch of tornado touchdowns outside of town, streets ran like rivers, it was a fun time.

Good luck to you guys in Houston and areas in between.

Report I heard this morning was 4 dead, 12 missing...and more rain expected throughout the week. Damn.

If El Nino caused this...I can't wait for hurricane season.

No flooding at work in Dallas, but we came in this morning, power lines were down in the parking lot. Telephone lines down to the house.

Luckily, there are two sets of lines on the same pole. Ours comes in on the top set, so we still have power.

Any word on how far Lake LBJ has come up?

My exwife's family has a ranch just north of Sunrise Beach, right on the shore.

That's a constant level lake.  It doesn't fluctuate very much.  Once it starts going up, they release it downstream to Travis.  I'm sure the floodgates have been open a lot.

This is the lower parking level of my gf's apartment complex. Management didn't close the flood gates. Luckily we weren't parked down there...
