I have an S4 currently. I might just sit on it for a while, but I am considering an upgrade.

The lack of removal battery doesn't bother me all that much with the S6. I don't care for the no SD card thing, but I can live with that too. So those two factors aside, is the S6 really worth upgrading to? I tinkered with one a bit at a Verizon store a week or so ago. I didn't really blow me away. In fact, my S4 felt significantly more responsive, but maybe the display model S6 had just been beaten up bad by kids toying with it.

I considered getting an S5 to save some cash. I figure it's an upgrade over what I have now, and it's relatively cheap now being a generation behind. But is it really worth the upgrade?

Didn't Samsung also ditch the water gaskets on the S6?

S5 is a hell of a good phone, I would still be using mine if AT&T didn't suck where I live. I would go with the S5 just for the water resistance alone. S5 isnt the newest, but its still extremely recent technology.

I'd have to get an S5 Active for water resistance right? A standard S5 isn't going to have that quality?

Nope.  Both S5 and S5 Active have the water/dust resistance.  I had the active, my wife had the regular model.  Both great phones. If I had to do it over I would have just got the regular S5.

I'm also considering an upgrade to the s5 from the s4 just for the resistance to water.  I have seen YouTube video where a guy submerges an S6 in a bowl of water for 20 minutes before it dies though.  And there are rumors there will be an S6 active that will be water resistant.

I may go Monday to Verizon and see what my options are.

I upgraded to the S6 - I love it.  The battery lasts 22+ hours with mixed use, I enjoy the wireless charging, and the display/camera are awesome.  The 64gb of storage negates the removable Sd card for my needs.  I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I have the s6 edge and vote that it is worth it. Many of the current complaints are duse to software issues that will be corrected with the new android update in late june. As far as hardware goes there really isn't a comparison between the s5 and s6. Faster processor, better camera, more ram, higher definition screen, aluminum and glass body, wireless charging  and fast chargin capabilIty. The S5 had the advantage of premiering with a brand new version of android at the time the s6 premiered with an older version. It will only get better and has the hardware capability to be upgraded for a long time.

Yes.

I love the fact that my S5 is water resistant. So much so, I won't upgrade unless it's to another water resistant phone.

S5 is fucking rock solid, from a reliability standpoint, I've had it almost the entire time it's been out and almost not a single issue at all. Versus my S2 which had a fuck ton of glitches.

I like the S5 and don't plan on getting another phone until those fuckers add a memory card feature again.

Really love my s5.
buy a case though. The thing is slick and you can barely hold onto it.
in a freak accident my 1 year old tried to grab it off the kitchen table. My wife tried to stop her. Phone hit the floor, back popped off and mt dew poured inside. Now it won't detect a SIM card but works fine otherwise. 200$ insurance deductable.
get a case and enjoy a great phone.

Reasonably accurate, if you ignore that the S6 has a better camera, better screen, better hardware, better construction, wireless charging, and has considerably outsold the flop of a phone that the S5 turned out to be.

For all the praise the S5 receives on arfcom, it was a global flop.  While I'd appreciate the water resistant design and removable battery, the overall phone was a plastic clad failure and the sales demonstrate this.

Did they carry the "ultra power saving mode" over to the S6?

Theoretically, it's good for around 12 days of use on the S5 (albeit with just basic phone & text capability).

In normal mode, my S5 routinely goes 4 days between charges.

Spare S5 batteries are around 11 bucks each.

I think it does, though I haven't used it.  I charge mine each night and I use the Internet a decent amount.  In a pinch I have a Jackery 12,000mAhr external battery that I keep in my bag

I owned the S3, S5,and now the S6.

I'd go with the S6 on these points which may or may not apply to you:
- Faster
- Thinner width and thus easier to grip and reach across the screen one handed
- Significantly improved camera, particularly low light performance
- Battery life is pretty much on par with my S5 once it was broken in.
- I don't miss the SD slot, the bulk of my storage intensive stuff like music are "on the cloud"
- I don't miss the water resistance.  I was never comfortable dunking my S5 anyway even if it could take it.

The only real downside I've found so far is that the glass back is slippery so you pretty much need a case otherwise you'll fumble and drop it.  I've never used a case before and hated adding thickness to my phone.  I found this one which for all practical purposes adds almost nothing but gives makes it less slippery.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NZDU97S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I guess the inability to remove the battery may bite me one day as I've never had a phone that didn't need a battery replaced after a year to maintain original battery life.  So make that two downsides.  Still not enough to push me back into the S5 though.

My girlfriend recently bought a S6. After a week, it froze up. Since you can't remove the battery to reboot it, they exchanged it for a new phone.

This trend of non-removeable batteries and no SD cards is absolutely retarded. Android uses almost 12 gigs alone, on a phone with only 32 or 64 gigs total. Add some pictures, apps, videos, and some music, and it runs out quuckly.

If you file a claim on homeowners or renters, most companies will hand you a huge increase at renewal time. Not so with the phone company insurance.

S5 if you really want water resistance and the removable battery & SD card. Skip the Active... It feels like cheap shit and doesnt really do any ruggedizing that a S5+ any number of levels of protection cases can provide.

S6 if you want the currently best mobile phone camera offered.

I have the S6 and its a great phone. I'd stay away from any of the cases that have a metal band around the edge of the rubber. The first case I had seemed to slightly reduce call and data reception and unfortunately I get poor signal at work and at home by virtue of ATTs shit network-- so I noticed it. A standard Incipio or BodyGlove case + Zagg protective glass cover is probably going to take care of basic drops. I fish a lot so it's going to stay behind while the gopro does the filming.

Just upgraded from S3 to S6 Friday, so only had it a few days, but I can say it is a large step up from the S3. I previously had an IPhone prior to the S3 so no issue with a non removeable battery and got the 64gb model and as my music and images are all online, so this is plenty of room.

I got an Otterbox case for it so no need to worry about moisture or anything like that either.

Does the S6 have an OIS (optical image stabilization) type camera lens?

I have an S4 but would like to upgrade to a more polished operation system and better camera.

The only feature I'll really miss is the removable battery and SD card; but not a deal breaker.

Lollipop on my S4 is not that good; buggy in my case for whatever reason.
