If you think someone is burglarizing houses and that if you follow or confront them they will just have a conversation with you without threat of violence, you are an idiot.  If you get out of your car to follow them off the street, unprepared for a physical altercation, you are an idiot. If you walk past a house with a number, away from your vehicle and the lit street to get the house behind it's number after following someone you suspect of burglary, you are an idiot.

He wasn't blind-sided. He wasn't sucker-punched unless you want to expand the term to include having shit situational awareness, failing to identify and address a potential threat, and failing to manage distance when the potential threat becomes actual.

Physically and mentally unprepared. For as much as GD crows "get trained, get trained, get trained", "mind and body, mind and body", GZ gets a pass on all of that based solely on the fact he lucked out and killed a thug when BOTH of them volunteered for Thunderdome.

Takes more than a shaggy coat to make a Sheepdog.

So that's your argument?  GZ either sucks, or is such a stone-cold pussy, that he had no business doing *anything* that night?  Not even being a good witness?  Observing-and-reporting?  (which is what he was trying to do).

GZ sought out training... he at least got off the couch and made the effort.  It's a shame he wasn't better cut-out for it.

He also didn't seek out a confrontation... Trayvon hid in the darkness, and confronted GZ when he was going back to his truck.  GZ was trying to get an address/number off one of the buildings, and having done that, was leaving.  Does that qualify as volunteering for Thunderdome?

Trayvon sucker-punched GZ right in the nose, knocked him down, and followed it up with a total ground-n-pound.  Trayvon had no injuries other than his GSW, and some skinned knuckles... and by all accounts GZ never landed a single punch.   He was on his back, screaming for help, while Trayvon was bouncing his head off the sidewalk.

As far as "creating distance," create distance for what?  To draw his weapon in response to what I'm sure he thought was merely a conversation?  There was no fight/assault happening at that point.  Trayvon was between GZ and his truck.  Was GZ supposed to run?  GZ was a short, pudgy, middle-aged guy, and couldn't have outrun Trayvon, who was younger, taller, and a football player.

He didn't "volunteer for Thunderdome."  He wasn't trying to be Billy-bad-ass, and punch above his weight class... he never sought out a fight at all.  He wasn't trying to be ANYWHERE on ANYBODY'S force continuum.

I'm frankly appalled that you seem to think GZ "wore a short skirt and asked for it."  Have you read the trial testimony?  Did you watch any of it?

If you are scoping out houses for burgling and think you aren't going to be challenged, you're an idiot. If you think you can confront someone and threaten them, then assault them without being shot, you are an idiot. If you draw attention for criminal behavior then circle around to ambush residents without fear of being dropped in your tracks for being a thug, you are an idiot. If you think Safari Rules apply because you are all that, then you are an idiot and earned your death.

Does anyone really think the Mcdojo owner that "trained" Zimmerman ever told him he was a shit fighter?  Or do you think maybe the guy told him he was doing pretty good and if he kept coming he would get his next belt and be ready for the UFC in no time?

Zimmerman was there more for exercise than to learn how to fight. That was revealed during the trial.

The truth is that anybody can be sucker-punched or blind-sided in a fight, and find themselves on the losing end.  That goes for GZ, or Kimbo Slice.

NuhUh!

Oh wait

http://i60.tinypic.com/33c6h51.jpg

That's exactly what I was thinking of.

One punch, right on the button, and a human street-fighting machine like Kimbo was at the mercy of his opponent.  Another good example would be that match between Crocop and Bob Sapp, where Crocop delivered one good strike to the face (breaking Sapp's zygoma), and Sapp had nothing...  and Sapp is a HUGE man.

F*ck hand-to-hand fighting with a rusty rake.  There are so many ways it can go wrong... and even a trained fighter can end up getting stomped into a bloody pulp.

Did you read the part you cut out?

I'm replying to someone else's assertion that he thought there would just be a conversation. Are you calling one of your fellow ZimZamFans an idiot?

Bullshit, that is exactly what he did.

Dispatcher: Are you following him?
Zimmerman: Yeah

I'm not sure why you guys are so emotionally invested in this guy.  You guys are like liberals with your feelings overriding logic and fact.

He said he was following him.  He got out of his car and left the street.  He went past a house into the back yards, then when told not to follow Martin, instead of getting the number of the house he walked past, continued further from his vehicle, in the direction Martin went, to get the number off another house.

You might want to get familiar with the facts of the case.  Your emotions seem to have blinded you to what Zimmerman himself said.

As for being prepared, yeah, if you think walking into a poorly lit area, away from the street and your vehicle in the direction of someone you believe to be engaging in criminal activity is a sound course of action just because you are carrying a gun.... well, I'll just disagree with you and leave it at that.

IT WAS WHERE HE LIVED.  He had every right to be there.  He was not following Tray-Tray, or planning to have a conversation, at the time Tray-Tray ambushed and assaulted him, according to Tray-Tray's plan as described to that "really smart cookie" that can't read cursive.

He stayed in the car until the dispatcher asked where Martin was. He told the dispatcher he wasn't comfortable with how Martin was approaching the vehicle and
eyeing him. You'd actually have to hear the dispatcher tape. But that's too much to deal with when it goes against the BGI innocent 12 year old Trayvon narrative.

here's another inconvenient fact. Zimmerman was trying to walk away when Martin attacked. This wasn't Thunderdome. It was an unprovoked attack by somebody who felt they were being dissed.

No, it's not.

Here's a fun thought exercise. Would he have left the vehicle if he wasn't armed?

One last time, what does it matter?  George lived there, he could have followed Trayvon around like a puppy and made duck sounds and that would not matter, he would still not deserve to be brutally attacked.

The fact that you think it does makes you a thug as well.

Guess we can do away with all that messy use of force continuum stuff between 'harsh language' and 'shot in the face'.

Or he thinks he is some kind of Samurai bad ass and the idea of being taken out by a gun insults his sense of Bushido.

Keep walkin that personal attack line...

Nobody said he deserved to be attacked. Fact is, plenty of perfectly legal decisions are also colossally stupid. Like riding a motorcycle sans helmet.

Ain't that the truth...

I learned that way back when I posted about something I did.   The MYOB monday morning quarterbacks were falling all over themselves to tell me how they would have let a man abuse a woman.

Yeah Zimmerman is a REAL asshole for having the AUDACITY to be on the phone to the police about a suspicious person in his suburb.

He needs to sell his car, get another one, move as far from floriduh as he can, maybe to California where he'll blend in with the hispanics a little more and lay low for a bit.  That dude has 17% of the population gunning for him and he appears to draw drama like a magnet

Why? Because I don't join in the slobbering love affair with the guy just because he offed a thug?

Face it, he's the sort of sheepdog that regularly gets mocked around here. No awareness, minimal (ineffectual) training, and the end result was more sheer dumb luck than anything else. Hey, at least he was "doing something".

With Florida's 10-20-Life rule, minimum of 20 years. If they count the face injury to Zim, 25 to life.

lapse of judgement while preoccupied (he was talking on the phone, and taking numbers) is a total conviction for being a retard. yep. sorry But I agree with intune69 and the rest, you'd be the last person I'd wish to associate with if I needed assistance of any kind.

Especially after the neighborhood practically begged him to engage in such acts on their behalf.

Irrelevant.  Might as well ask "would he have left the vehicle if he was black?"  Armed, unarmed - it's HIS neighborhood.

There is zero evidence he had an attitude like that prior to his ordeal.

As for his post-shooting/prosecution "F*CK ALL OF YOU" attitude, I wouldn't be so quick to judge that if I were you.  Consider how hard the State (and much of the media) smeared and legally sodomized him.  I have no doubt he's a changed man in many ways.

Maybe, maybe not. One might point out that a person is a lot harder to taunt on the internet when they're not actively maintaining a public profile.

The evidence showed Zimmerman didn't draw and shoot untilafter he was under attack.  Whether he got out of the car or not is irrelevant because he still had the right to be there.

Trayvon could  have just run off but no he came back to ambush

Zimmerman.  That puts the results of situation on him.

I think any disdain you have for Zman is unjustified.

Iirc, he was on his way back to his car and turned around AT THE REQUEST OF 911 to find a street sign. Treygone had ample opportunity to beat feet

Apparently not or he simply heard what he wanted to and that was A) Zimmerman didn't train his entire adult life to become a neighborhood watch person B) Zimmerman simply wanted to find trouble, was "told" not to, but went anyway and because of his lack of training did everything wrong when it came to the confrontation C) that "normal" people are incapable of giving a shit about crime because they aren't trained properly in hand-to-hand combat and have inferior firearms and are just plain too stupid to handle every situation properly.

The only thing Z man didn't realize was the mindset of evil and how quickly it would overtake him but I'd say he figured out quick enough what to do and won.  Lots of people from both sides of the firearms argument seem to look at this guy as dumb or evil because of what happened but he won despite the massive forces aligned against him.  I think he did just fine.

You DO know that before the incident with aspiring rapper trayvonn that he was involved in protesting police abuse of a black person, right?

Come to think of it, based on your posts in this thread so far, you probably DON'T know that ....

Z man catches shit from the allegedly pro-gun side for the same reason open carry people do.  A lot of gun people aren't pro-gun - they are in fact anti-anything that might end up in getting THEIR toys banned or restricted.

I picture them in subdued light, fondling the contents of their gun safe (that they would NEVER dare to openly carry, because "just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD"), whispering, "my prescious,...my PRESCIOUS!" ..."
